shake prepared ahead of time

Postby Nite Izes » January 20th, 2005, 11:48 am

I usually buy the RTD (ready to drink) shakes that I enjoy very much. The main reason - they are convenient, no refrigeration needed, taste good at room temperature, fits unnoticeably in my bag and even in my pocket and I really like the chocolate flavor ones.

I also have a lot of the powder drinks since I buy everything in bulk and was wondering, if these shakes can be prepare a day or 2 ahead of time and refrigerate it? Will it thickens and the taste resembles a real milkshake or does it loses it flavor, thin out and lowers its nutritional value :?:

I don't know about nutrition-wise, but I can tell you that after sitting for a couple hours (even in the fridge) it's gets gunky. I wound up throwing it away. Other people might not mind it, but it was a no go for me. Maybe re-shaking would've helped, <shrug>

I just stick to the RTD's.

It definitely needs a shake up or two before slurping if it has been in the refer for a while.

I wouldn't recommend keeping it over night. I have done so but it doesn't taste as good.

If it sits on the refer shelf for a few hours it gets thicker so if you plan to prepare it in advance, making the shake with a little more water than usual is helpful.

I used to take a double shake to work every day - mine was made in the blender so it was really well-mixed and I would drink half at 10 AM and the other half of the double shake at 1 PM. It tasted just fine. But...a few times, I decided to have soup or oatmeal for the 1 PM "feeding" and left the other half in the refer overnight to have the next day at 10 AM and it wasn't that great. I drank it because I didn't want to waste my precious Medifast but it wasn't the best...

I'm gonna try that!

Good idea. I'll try making double tommorow and keeping half. I'm having a hard time making my second shake as I'm in class (I'm a teacher). That way I can just pull it out and no one will be the wiser! :)

Yep I worked at a college ad my students never knew what I was slurping!

You might consider the Ready to Drinks. They are $2.49 EACH or when ordered by the case (27 single servings in a case) average $2.25 each.

They do not need refrigeration, come with a little straw attached - just like the little juice boxes kids drink - only the Medfast Ready To Drinks are heart-healthy contain protein and provide a fast food meal for a busy teacher!
