Shake prep question

Postby AlexisClaire » August 14th, 2005, 12:39 pm

Hey Nancy, if I heat my chocolate shake in say, the microwave for a few seconds to make it more cocoa-like, will that do anything negative to the proteins or mess it up in any other way?

Hi, AlexisClaire ~

Good question. At one time it was thought the nutrients might be compromised by heating but after recent studies, the answer is: NOPE!

You may heat your shakes.

Just a little note - it can get gloppy if you heat it too fast or boil it.

Before Medifast made Hot Cocoa, I used to heat my Dutch Choc 55 and I made a few discoveries.

I added really hot water (from one of those Instant Hot spigots) to my shake powder and that made a glob. Don't try that home, Folks.

I added a packet to a cup of steaming hot coffee. There was not enough room to stir and it slopped all over the cup and globbed up, resulting in an unfavorable experience.

If I want to mix it into coffee, I usually add a packet to a small amount of cool water and stir it until it is real smooth, then I slowly add it to my coffee and stir some more. It's great that way.

For some reason it doesn't seem to be quite sweet enough for my tastebuds when I heat it so I add a packet of Splenda or a tiny bit (and I DO mean tiny bit) of peppermint extract.
Nothing tastes as good as thin feels...
