Well, I took an advanced Excel class today, so I'm feeling really brainy. Ohhhhhh what I could do with some weight stats! Macros, pivot tables, charts & graphs, Links.....oh yeah!

I was lucky enough to apply at a temp agency that had tutorials you did on desktops in their offices when you weren't on a job. You did the tutorials and were then tested until you got a 100. I now have advanced skills on all Microsoft office programs, not that I used them much as a legal secretary. My job there dealt mostly with word processing. I had Word on my computer but the weirdo freak office manager who always talked about my weight griped if I didn't use WordPerfect. Gosh, I'm glad I quit that job!!!

Notice I didn't include teaching with what I learned. I'm a terrible teacher. My instructor was great, though. One of the coolest things I learned was how to embed word documents into excel and visa versa. I'll use the macro recorder, too, but you won't see me writing much code. If I need to do that, I'll just email my son, hehe.

I think I should have been a programer. I get all tingly when I learn something new and it's always been that way....even as far back as the first PC we had. It had 10mb of memory and we thought we would never need more. It also cost over $10,000! Can't say I miss MS-DOS, but writing macros reminds me of the old MS-DOS strings we used to write.

Ok, enough techy talk.

I almost exclusively used the recorder. Why not? :?: But I understand how it could get exciting for you.

While driving home from my conference yesterday, I was listening to a talk show. The host is a marriage and family counsler. She said something to a woman who had cheated on her boyfriend and swore she didn't know what happened until it was over......does this sound familiar? she talked of something taking over her body while she watched. Well, anyway, the psychologist said something that has stuck with me so I thought I'd share it:

She said, "If you choose not to listen to your intelligent self in these situations, there is nothing anyone can do to help you. You need to give your intelligent self more power."

I'm not usually taken in by psychobabble, but this just seemed to fit. I can say that each time I have eaten the wrong things, I've been warned by my intelligent self that it would not be a good choice and I chose to ignore the warning. I think I'm going to give my intelligent self new power and make her a bit of a bully instead of allowing that inner brat to get her way.

The intelligent self as opposed to the emotional self - thought-provoking this early in the am, Jo! Too much thinking for me but I'll save it for later contemplation when I'm awake. :D

Thanks for posting that Jo. Reminds me of a line in the main text of AA where it says a man "vaguely sensed he was being none too smart" when he ordered a drink after a period of sobriety.

I'm saving this because my inner brat often talks over my intelligent self and I've allowed it for too many years......in too many areas.

Thanks for remembering it and sharing it here.

My intelligent self spoke to me last week and I certainly ignored it. I don't know why I was so rebellious about it, and I knew when I was doing it that I would be sorry but I still did it. Cost me 1.5 increase on the scales.

I guess some of the lesson sank in for me, even early in the morning, because my intelligent self won the fight today. Yay logical brain! Kick rebellion to the curb!

I'm just wondering if you live any where near any of our stops. We'll be cruising the islands the last 2 weeks in September...... Where are you in relation to the ports? I admit I know almost nothing about the geography of Hawaii.

Hey Jo! I live on Oahu. The main port at the Aloha Tower where all of the cruise ships dock is 15 minutes from where I live. Please let me know what your itinerary (sp?) is. I would love to see you! I will be traveling to the Big Island for my MIL's 80th birthday around that time, but if I'm here, I'll come and meet you at the port! :D

Aloha Jo, I wanted to paste this onto your journal just in case you didn't see this in mine. Hope I'll get to see you!
