Hey there Ser...

Thanks for stopping by my journal and for helping me decide what to wear to the banquet. Tomorrow is the big day and I CAN'T WAIT.

You are a great inspiration. Thanks for keeping it real!!!!

We will always still need to pay close attention to what we eat

Erica,

It's much easier said than done. With maintenance, nothing is taboo unless we choose to make it that way. I'm wrestling with this. I thought that moderation was the key, but some things just may not have a moderation level.....they go from 0 - 100 lightning fast. I truly feel at times that I need to give some things up for good and mourn the loss as in the loss of a good friend. Accepting that could be the key to my sanity.

I pay attention to everything I eat, but it's not enough to make me feel comfortable.

Dang, I was so much happier on program, lol.

ok jo, you're scaring me!!! Only kidding. Unfortunately, in this society, being fat is taboo. You did such a wonderful job sticking to plan. I know you seem to be finding certain areas a little "sticky" right now but dang nab it, i wanna be able to feel that challenge from the "maintenance seat". Good luck in finding that balance, when you do, make sure you let us all in on the secret!

Hey, Jo. I LOVE that you wrote about how much more difficult maintenance is in the fact that nothing is taboo. That's the hardest part to wrap my head around. When I'm out with friends or family, and they ask "oh, can you eat this?" I used to just be able to say "no, but thanks." Whereas now I have to say "well, I technically can, I technically can eat whatever I want, but I'll pass, thanks." Ha. Yeah, I don't HAVE to say all that, but I don't want people to think I'm still "dieting." You know? :-)

But we are, aren't we? I mean, I don't eat like anybody I know, and I recognize I'll never be able to. I am fine with this, I was never eating like anyone else when I was fat either! ha. But feeling like I have to explain that to my loved ones is a little more difficult, they can't fathom how I can look thin and exercise so vigorously but still be so careful. They don't realize that our fat cells still wait patiently in our bodies to be "re-fed," and are eager to plump up again!

Yep, Jo, being on 5&1 was SO much easier, this maintenance thing requires way more thought and finesse!

Hope you had a lovely weekend. You coming to the city to visit your son anytime soon? I'd still love to meet ya!

Wow. I usually just say "I can eat anything I want, but I just don't want any right now." Seems to work fine if it's something I don't want to have or if I've already indulged enough for the day or week.

Frankly, I'm trying to talk LESS about food and what I eat and all that with people. I'm guessing most of my friends and family just aren't all that interested anymore (if they ever were to start with).

Yeah, I don't feel the need to explain myself to friends and family. They all know what I've been through and don't question me. It's me I have to continually explain things too.....guess I'm a slow learner and prefer to torture myself by living on the edge. Don't worry, though. I'm getting there in mind and will soon in spirit.....it's just such a hard decision to make and my inner brat is really resisting and rationalizing.

May I join this chorus of 'maintainers'. I do so admire you all, JO, ROBIN & LAUREN. Your accomplishments have been monumental! Inspirational!
And in your own way you've helped guide me through the rough places of weight loss and now into maintenance.
Of course, we all plan to retain what we have gained (or lost) and will never go back to what was, even if it is with some kicking and screaming!
It is worth it all, as you know.
And two years, ten years, whatever from now, we will still be just US, winning small battles here... and losing small battles there, but WIN we will!
Thank you all for being part of my life's exciting journey.

I'm here bebes. I'm just super busy with year end stuff at work and on top of that I've just spent 3 days dealing with our internet provider tech support only to find out that the problem was on their end and it took a flip of a switch to fix our problem. 3 days without internet at work was not good.

Outsourcing should be outlawed! I actually had a person sitting in India somewhere say to me: "I'm here to help you" I said, "How can you be here to help me when you're 5,000 miles away?" :x :x :x

I love it when they say "Hi, my name is Sally" as if that is on their birth certificate! I read an article somewhere about how they encourage the outsourced Indians to pick American sounding names and try to learn some slang. Yeah, we're fooled. I just hate it when I can't understand them.

I feel completely paralyzed when my internet goes down (at work or at home). It's like the world around me is hopping but I am immobile. Hate it! Congrats on getting it fixed, but sorry for the sucky process in the interim!

Ciao, bella!

Mine was "Kevin". Funny thing was he couldn't pronounce my first name. I tried 3 times JO - ANN! No, not Jillian, JO - ANN!! No, not Juulee. After the third try, I told him to forget it.
