SEASONINGS

Postby marcia » January 16th, 2006, 12:03 pm

Now remember I'm new to this, just into my second week so you may all have found this ages ago. Here goes anyway!

I am/was a cooking enthusiast so am into lots of flavor and spices. For Medifast what I've found this simple product that is killer. Its DEAN & JACOB"s spices and rubs. Email is www.xcellint.com. The spices come in a 4 partitioned shaker and are put together for specific uses.

The spices themselves vary from very spicy blends to subtle flavors all for specific uses. The poultry rub shaker has Lemon Pepper, Rosemary Garlic, B-B-Q chicken and Rotisserie chicken. Use any of these, sprinkle on boneless skinless chicken breast let stand for 35 min. (or longer) then grill (in wintter the George Forman works great). It sure adds variety. In fact the Rotisserie seasoning gives the chicken that great FATTENING Costco rotisserie chicken flavor.

Since I love cooking I'll be adding to this forum lots! Just remember I have as many flops as sucesses and some of what I like may not fit your taste (just ask Gwenski :x )

Enjoy

Oh, I LOVE Costco rotisserie chicken. I may need to check this out. Thanks for the tip!!

Does the package list the ingredients, by any chance? Some spice mixes have sugar, and their Web site doesn't say if these do. Their meat and poultry rubs look promising, too, but I try to get seasoning mixes that don't have sugar.

Oh no  I didn't notice the sugar. So glad you brought that up. Let me give you the ingredients anyway to see if you might want to try and recreate it but with Splenda. I may try that next week end myself.

Salt, onoin and garlic, chille peper, celery powder, tanuia yeast, lemon powder, lemon juice, lemon oil, sugar, parsley, soybean oil, lecithin and calcium sillcate (for anti caking). This is all dehydrated, but I'm sure you can do fresh

If you're interessted in any of the others I can check labels I have since most have no sugar.

Also since I am very new give me some input on what the sugar will do, it seems like such a small amount. I get that a little here and a little there can be a problem, but not up to snuff on the whole sugar thing.

Thanks again

Hi,
Are the ingredients listed in the order that you listed for us? On a package, ingredients must be put in order of quantity (highest first down to least last). With that said, sugar comes after lemon oil. I cannot imagine that there would be very much lemon oil in a rub (lemon juice, maybe, but not the oil).

It is not actually legal because of there is some sugar (even if it is very small), but it probably would not hurt you much if you are using just a few shakes of it and if you listed the ingredients the way they are listed on the package.

Here's wishing you good luck!

Yeah, if it's that low on the list, it should be fine for most people. I avoid it because I'm very carb-sensitive and my entire family is diabetic, except me (so far).

It sounds like it's fine for "normal" people. It's not like you're going to eat a whole container of it or anything!
