Saigon Cinnamon??

Postby mellowmom » August 15th, 2006, 11:27 am

Has anyone here tried the "Saigon Cinnamon" put out by McCormick Spice Company? Wow, it's delicious, almost too delicious. I mean, it tastes like it has sugar in it, but I don't see any reference of it being added to the product. The outside states that it is one of the "sweetest" cinnamons around, but this stuff tastes REALLY sweet to me. I've been dumping it in everything, shakes, soups, puddings, oatmeal.

I read somewhere on this board that cinnamon is supposed to be good for stabilizing blood sugars, and as a diabetic anytime I see the words "blood sugar" and "stabilize" I'm all over it.

Just wanted to pass this flavoring along to any of you who might be looking for a sweet tasting "rush"... (Please let it be legal,, please, please, please... <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/17/17_1_10.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D17%252F17_1_10/image.gif"> )

Cinnamon is excellent for blood sugar and insulin response; they're even selling it as a supplement these days.

I have half a tablespoon in my oatmeal every day. (And I believe it's the Saigon one, too. I got mine at Costco in a giant bottle. Although I also use the Cinnabon kind Nancy gave me. Yummm.)

Saw where Robin mentioned the cinamon supplement. I take a cinnamon capsule. It is a gel cap. I gave about 5 bucks for 100 caps. I take 2 500 mg caps a day with food. They are a Rexall brand and I got them at WalMart. Doc recommended them. Only thing is, when I burp, I taste cinnamon. I just hope it smells like cinnamon!! HAHA

I had been taking a cinn. capsule every day too. I am not diabetic but insulin resistent so I thought maybe it would help. I would prefer to have the same effect in something that taste sweet though.

The cinnamon is wonderful! I found some online from the Spice Barn, called 'Vietnamese Cinnamon', which most likely is identical to yours, Carmel. It is nice and sweet, and like you, I am adding it to many things, especially, my coffee and cereal, and chili.
I even suggested my daughter-in-law pick up some while touring next month in Vietnam. It is really great stuff. And, thanks for the idea, Carmel.

You're welcome, Joan. Glad you like it. I just noticed yesteday that my local Costco has it on sale right now. The Giant bottle for $3.98. I really recommend it to anyone out there with blood sugar issues or even to use it just as a different "taste" to foods. I too toss it in my chili. Hope you all enjoy it.

Carmel

P.S. I can't say it's related, but since I started using it I haven't hit any long plateaus, or yo-yoed on my weight loss. I wonder if it is related? Anyone know? <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_27_2.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D23%252F23_27_2/image.gif">

Anywhere else?

Postby KimKim » October 31st, 2006, 10:48 am

Hey you all,

I really, really want some of this Saigon, "Vietnamese" Cinnamon! I was at Sam's Club the other day, desperately looking but didn't see it. I came back on here and saw that it was at "Costco's" but I don't know if there's a Costcos nearby.

Is there someplace else I can get this stuff besides online? Or is there another good online place besides Spice Barn?

Just exploring my options,

Kim

I agree that Penzey's is a good place to purchase spices, some spice combos never heard of before, but worth getting, as I found out!

I had ordered Vietnamese cinnamon through Pensey's awhile back and just a couple of days ago, I received some cinnamon direct from Vietnam as part of a gift. It is wonderful on almost everything in the MF line. Try some! :D

I was about to suggest Penzeys too... they have some great dry rubs for meat and great salad dressing mixes that come in small bottles, not packets, and I use them for all kinds of stuff. I love sprinkling just a bit of the ranch mix on veggies. I use the Italian dressing one on a roast in the slow cooker to make Italian Beef. Yum.

Their ranch dressing mix is great as a chicken rub, as is the green goddess. I am a BIG Penzey's fan!
