Rotisserie Chicken

Postby Sondra » June 11th, 2006, 6:18 pm

Can rotisserie chicken purchased from the grocery store or a restaurant be used on the MF plan? I bought some last night and now see that it was prepared with a marinade containing dextrose.

Thank you Sheila for your quick reply! I didn't think there would be a problem. But after reading the packaging, my heart sank as I thought I "ruined" all of my hard work. I'm too busy to prepare chicken and this just seemed like such a great alternative.

BTW, CONGRATS on your -43 lost and gone forever!!!

I just completed my first week and am very pleased.

Happy too to have run across this website!!

Diana and I have these types of chickens every once in a while. THey taste great and are so moist. I just remove the skin before eating.

Just bear in mind that part of that moistness is because there's more fat in the meat when it's cooked with the skin on.

Sondra, whatever works for you is fine as long as you are still losing!! If you stop losing then you need to reevaluate what you are eating!! good luck!

Hmmmm Sondra,
When my clients ask me I'm afraid I discourage it. It is cooked with the skin on and that's exactly where the fat is -- under the skin. So it is chicken infused with fat. That's why it is soooo yummy. :? I see that some of you have gotten away with it... but I personally don't think it is a wonderful idea. In fact I always say skinless chicken breast is the best. That's the lowest in fat. I personally love chicken thighs but they are higher in fat than some cuts of beef. That's why they taste so great to me too. Even now on maintenance I stay away from the rotisserie chicken for the most part.I worry more about the fat than the marinade. Both both are probably not the best idea.

Many thanks for the great explanation! I hadn't really thought too much about the fat content as I always remove the skin from chicken--didn't realize that it cooked into the chicken. I appreciate this information!! Guess I'll have to go for no-fat cottage cheese when I'm in a hurry!! :)
