Speaking of quotes - was wondering why you use "Ad astra per aspera" - "To the stars through difficulties". It is the state motto of Kansas, as well as the name of an indie rock group. Also, it's just a pretty nifty motto - how did you come upon it?

Just glad to know my jr. hi Latin still works - sort of

Jennifer, Interresting. Nobody ever notices that quote. It's one I ran across many years ago when I was first starting out and I took it as my motto because at that time the translation I read with it was "By striving I shall reach the stars". I was working to make a name for myself ,[ I'm a sculpter]. and that quote appealed to me. DogMa, You work for the Star Telegram? A great paper, I've read it for over 28 years. Funny story. On the occasion of the unveiling of my first monumental public work, the Star Telegram covered the story and ran it as the big front page story with a picture of the sculpture. However the article was too long and so some editor shortened it by one paragraph. Mine! So they ran the story with no mention of the artist who did it. I was crushed. I was a struggling young artist, it was my first major piece, and it was a front page story in a major newspaper. They apologized and reran the story in the evening edition with the deleted paragraph replaced, but moved it to the middle of the second section. Obviously I forgave them, and they have run many stories on my work since then, but I've never made the front page again! :x

Ugh. I'm glad that was before my time, since I'm an editor here. :) I still apologize on behalf of the whole paper, though. You must have been so disappointed.

I can see why we've done so many stories about you, though. I remember your work from the Studio area of this site, and it's very impressive.

Not to worry, Robin. That was twenty years ago and I'm still a subcriber. :D I just thought you might get a kick out of the story. I didn't know you were one of "them" [editor] Well, now you know about the tender feelings of artists should the occasion arise. You might recognize the piece in the before picture. It's local and the paper ran several articles and pictures on it.
