Questions

Postby RyCoBlakesFolks » March 3rd, 2006, 11:33 am

Good morning fellow losers!

I have used the search and did not find these questions asked or answered so hope I'm not repeating.

#1 - Is there a limit on the amount of Walden Farms products we can use
if they are calorie, fat, carb, & sugar free? I like to use a generous
amount of the dressing on my salads and frankly could sit and
eat/drink half a bottle of the chocolate syrup as a treat (No, I don't,
but I really could!)

#2 - I see where we can have 2 whole dill pickles per day. I am not crazy
enough about pickles to have them daily but do like cucumbers ALOT!
What would the difference be if any in having cucumber instead and
in addition to the 'green' amount we're allowed daily? (I love to peel,
quarter, and slice them then add Waldens Farms Ranch dressing, a
little bit of diced purple sweet onion and a packet or two of Splenda.
What a yummy treat it is!)

#3 - I am wondering what the true physiological difference is to the body
in drinking plain water and say Crystal Lite? I have been drinking my
64oz. of plain water and then LOTS of Crystal Lite every day but I so
much prefer the latter and wanted to know if there is a scientific
reason why this and other diets insist on plain water?

#4 - I have been a little disappointed in my weight loss the past 2 weeks.
I know everyone will say that I shouldn't be because after all I have
lost 27 pounds in 4 weeks and that is great. I know it is very good
but my losses have been wk#1-11lbs., wk#2-10lbs., wk#3-4lbs., &
wk#4-2lbs. Typically, will my weight loss slow down to 2-4 lbs. per
week and if so would I be better off to see my doctor and try
the 'Full Fast' for quicker weight loss? I still have around 100 lbs. to
lose so want it off as quickly as possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks a Bunch,
Lori

Lori

I am no expert by any means but will give your questions a shot until someone with more experience comes along.

1) I have no idea about the Walden Farms limits but a suggestion I have is when I have a salad I put it in a tupperware container with a lid, I then put 2tbsp Walden Farms dressing in and put the lid on and then shake the heck out of it. That way all of the salad greens get coated with the dressing and this has been working great for me.

2) Cucumbers can be used as part of the lean and green but we are not suppose to use them as snacks in place of the pickles

3) My Dr explained the water like this....He said that when we take in plain water it goes right through the body flushing out fat cells and impurities. When we have other non caloric drinks like Crystal Light there are other ingredients that the body has to process and therefore you are not getting the benefits of plain water cause in the processing your body is actually using the water in the processing effort. (I hope this makes sense to you. I always take him at his word)

4) When I first started the program I asked others if there was a difference in weight loss between the 5&1 and the full fast..the answer I got was NO. Yes our weight loss does slow down a little but remember you are still losing quicker than you would with a conventional "diet". Sometimes though you will have better weeks I lost 10lb in week 1, 3lbs in weeks 2 and 3, then 7lbs in week 4, then 2lbs in week 5, and then 3lbs in week 6.

I hope this helps a little.

Here's a little blurb from this post about aspertame:

Dr. Atkins felt it interfered with fat burning on a cellular level.

Take it as you will....

Re: aspertame (in crystal light and other yummy diet drinks) the pancreas still reacts to aspertame, not unlike sugar. Perhaps the reaction isn't as severe as the reaction to sugar, but that would totally explain why it inhibits fat burning. Dr. Atkins is not the only professional that has claimed that aspertame actaully increases hunger and slows the fat burning process.

Splenda is a good product (at this point anyway). I personally use Stevia to sweeten anything and everything that needs it. Stevia can be found in any health food store in liquid or powder form. Pure Stevia is of course sweeter than Stevia extract. It does cost slightly more than splenda, but it is an all natural herb that causes no affect to the pancreas and is tastes just as good, if not better, than Splenda. (different brands have slightly different potency and I prefer powder over liquid) Hope this helps someone :)

Couple of notes:

I disagree on the cucumber. As long as you're having the same amount as you would if they were pickles, I think they're fine. Better in some ways, because of the lack of sodium. Saying pickles are OK but the equivalent amount of cucumbers is not makes no sense to me. (This one is actually covered somewhere on the forum. I asked when I first started.)

Re: Walden Farms, I wouldn't go hog wild with it. It's NOT calorie-, carb- or fat-free, necessarily. It has a low enough amount PER SERVING for them to say that. One serving has so few calories, it's considered calorie-free. A full bottle of dressing most definitely has calories. Same with the rest: It has less than 1 gram of carb per serving. But it could be 0.8 or 0.9 gram carb. Which means it would add up if you had the whole bottle.
