Questions re: lean and mean

Postby aimalasplace » August 14th, 2005, 2:10 pm

HI again,
I have 2 questions about the lean and green meal.
1) I have some boneless, skiness chicken thighs in my freezer, are we allowed 7oz of them or should be have 5oz due to them being more fattier.
2) If I have some salad dressing that is 2 grams of carbs for 2 TBS can I have 1 TBS for 1 carb or we just allowed the medifast dressing- I have 2-3 bottles of the "store brand" low carb.
I am sorry if this is a freq. asked ? but I couldn't find the answer and I haven't gotten my package yet.

Aimee-

You can use store bought salad dressing. I think is should be lowfat or fatfree. The only thing to watch on the low carb dressing is the calories. I have looked at it at the store and sometimes 2 tbsp is around 120 calories. That's alot. I would just read the calories & fat & make sure they are not too high.

I know that as far as chicken goes it is suppose to be lean. If I were to eat the dark meat I would eat a smaller portion but I only eat the white meat.

Thanks for the Speedy reply :burnout:
I just have about a 1/2 lb of the chicken thighs.
I LOVE thighs but the white stuff is great too.
I think my dressing is lite so the cals will be lower but if not I won't eat it. I don't want to do anything incorrect.

Aimee ~

The total calories for the salad and the salad dressing should be no more than 80 calories.

With salad dressings (and all foods, really) we must really get into the habit of reading the label before we eat it. Many low fat or no fat salad dressings actually have a high carb count because corn syrup is often added as a thickener. You may use salad dressings from the store shelves/refrigerator case just check the nutritional analysis first.

Just because a label says 'lite' it may not necessarily be so -

I have listed quite a few brands of salad dressings in previous posts - use the search feature. Sometimes you have to search and read a little but since you are new here, it will be good for you to do the research.

I would go ahead and use up the chicken thighs that you have and in the future, purchase breasts. Thighs are meaty but they are a lot fatter than chicken breasts. Perhaps you could pierce the thigh meat prior to cooking and some of the excess fat will run out while it cooks.

I bought a big pack of what I thought was pork loins. They ended up being thin sliced pork chops. I hand trimmed them and took the bone out. The center is a loin but the other pieces can I just eat 5oz as in beef.
I also got a brocure from Medifast Tucson and they stated that women eat 5oz and Men eat 7oz chicken fish or very lean pork- no mention of steak. I think I got on the mailing list when I checked out their site/forum. I want to stick with you guys- this forum is the best :D and I want the correct things. At times I see different/ conflicting statements on what we can have. Is there a web site that is up to date and correct that I can print stuff from.
I ordered the book success in a shaker jar, and the recipe book and lifestyles patient guide. I am hoping that can help me too.
I just want to badly to succeed and am terrified of failure. I feel that this is my last hope, I need to get this right- I know alot of people have been where I am and have gained (insite) and lost (the weight)

Aimeé ~

Medifast changed the protocol for the meat portion earlier this year and I made a posting regarding it.

There used to be a difference in the serving size for men and women but that is no longer so.

Here's the skinny on the Lean and Green

The Lean

Prepare meat by grilling, baking, broiling or poaching. You may use the non-stick spray Pam or similar spray to prevent the meat from sticking to the pan.

The ounces refer to the cooked weight

Remove all visible fat and skin before cooking.

Chicken, turkey, fish, crab, shrimp, lobster, etc. = 7 ounces

Lean beef (aka "Steak"), pork or lamb = 5 ounces

The Green

2 cups of any kind of salad greens such as Romaine, spinach, iceberg, red leaf, cabbage, etc. and up to 1/2 cup of chopped raw vegetables in your salad like cucumber, celery, radishes, green pepper, and tomato.

1-2 Tablespoons Medifast Salad Dressing or other low-fat low cal store purchased dressing

~or~

If you do not want a green salad...then you may have cooked veggies.

The portion size is 1.5 cups of cooked non-starchy vegetables (no corn, no potatoes, no legumes)

Approved vegetables are:

Alfalfa Sprouts
Asparagus
Beans (Italian, Green, Waxed)
Broccoli
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Celery
Cucumber
Eggplant
Greens (collard, turnip)
Kale
Lettuce (romaine, iceberg, bib)
Mushrooms (use in moderation on top of salad)
Onions/Peppers (green) (use in moderation on top of salad)
Radishes
Spinach
Summer Squash
Tomato
Turnips
Zucchini

To answer your question, simply...yes, you may have your chork pops - eat 5 ounces of pork chops/steak

Aimeé ~

You are most welcome!

We are all newbies at something at least once, right?

I sure wish the MakeMeThinner Forum was available when Terry and I started on the weight loss phase. We learned along the way and want to share what we know with folks who need our program. I guess we are pioneers!

Very soon you will be meeting and greeting the newbies and the wannabes - I know I can depend upon you to help me out, Aimeé.

Have a shakin' good day tomorrow!

But I feel that I am going in the right direction and as long as I can pass that time frame I will sail through this :bouncieball:
