Questions: Health Mate Blender AND Getting rid of the grit

Postby Out*With*The*Old » October 7th, 2007, 8:14 pm

Hi all:

I'm wondering if anyone has the Health Mate Blender? If so, do you like it, was it worth it? Why do you like or dislike it? I'm using a regular blender now for my shakes and it just seems so big and bulky -- just trying to find a better way. Plus, the cups looked to have lids - thought I could premake pudding and store it in the cup.

Also, for the hot items (I've only had soup, cappucino & hot cocoa) does anyone have tips on getting the grit out? It seems that no matter how much I stir or wisk I always have clumps or grit. I hav been heating the water first and addng the hot water to the meal so tonight I tried cold water - to no avail. I don't have the same issue with items I blend in the blender or simply shake. It's just the no shake items.....HELP :x

Thanks a million!

I dont use a blender for anything so can't help with that..lol

For my hot cocoa and soups I add boiling water..usually 8-12 oz(and always more then called for)...not sure cause I dont even measure it anymore...I use a big ol whisk and then with the soup I nuke it for a minute...sometimes more, sometimes less. The hot cocoa only does the lump or "skin" thing on the top if I let it sit for awhile so I try to keep stirring it as I sip away.

I always am very liberal with my salt and pepper on the soups and usually add either garlic pepper to the beefy ones...and salad supreme to the creamy ones.

Tomato soup taste gritty to me no matter what I do to it. :( But adding just a bit of water)1 or 2 oz) and making it into a paste first..and letting that sit for 5 min, before adding the rest of the hot water DOES seem to help some.

Hope this helps,
Hugs,
Gina

Thanks, Gina - - I have been using boiling water but only 8 ounces. I think maybe I'll try more water next time.....I really want to shake them, lol! Of course I wonder why it says not to - - so I don't.....but I'm curious why I can't when I REALLY think that would get out the lump-ola's

I just never seem to be able to wisk enough - - however, maybe I need to try putting it in a bog bowl to wisk.... :x just gets me when I have a mouthful of grit, hee hee!

Thanks again!!

Can't speak for the blenders... but I have found for best results with cocoa, cappucinno, soups:

I add in about 1/4 to 1/2 the water called for, pour in the packet, and mix mix mix, until it's a wet smooth paste. Then, I add in the rest of the water and mix some more. Lump-free :)

The reason shaking hot things is not recommended, at least not while they are actually warm/hot, is that if you do in a plastic shaker jar, the plastic expands with the heat. But not at an equal rate with the lid. Result = shaker jar explosion!

I've done this in a company bathroom with hot water from the sink, making up a "warming" Dutch Chocolate shake in the winter ;) Suddenly there was brown splatters ALL OVER the white bathroom. Thank God it was a bathroom for one only. I was cleaning up with paper towels for quite a while in there...

As for the Health Mate... I've heard many great results.

As for the grit from hot drinks... I had trouble at first until I found my little mixer. Its awesome and I have NO problems anymore. I'll PM info on it, its tiny, takes 2 AA batteries that last quite a while, and stirs up the drinks, even the scrambled eggs in seconds, and doesn't make a mess (if careful).

I don't worry about mixing some now some later... just heat the water, add the packet, stir... drink.

Along the same lines

Postby siglamb962 » October 8th, 2007, 5:58 pm

Hey guys,

I am getting major grit from the appetite sup shakes. Any suggestions? It is when I shake or blend.

Also, I am getting clumps with pudding with shaking and blending. Any thoughts?

Also, I heard someting about using a blender for eggs? How does that work. I had a bad nuke experience this weekend!!!!! UGHHHHHHH!

Hey guys, today I only needed two snacks to not feel hungry. I still have not cheated off medifast. After our other discussion about splitting the lean and green I tried it and I was less hungry. Hmmmm!

I feel so good. Tomorrow I hope I only need one snack.

WOOO HOOO :thumbig: Way to go! Just remember - one shake at a time. Like I have seen in many places - "you can do anything for 2-3 hours". The other day when I got the hungerys I decided to go for a walk, it really helped me. I know sometimes that isn't doable, but if you can get your mind off of them those nasty hungerys will usually leave you alone.

As for the grit, I find if I let my stuff sit after I shake/blend it the grit is gone. I think it soaks up the water and becomes thicker. My theory anyway.

Hiya Becki:

I only get grit when I wisk -- such as with the hot items that you have to do that way.

For the shakes, mine are wonderful and the pudding too. For the shakes, I blend with 8 ounces of water and a handful of ice. I just let the blender run for a minute or so, maybe more. By the time its finished its a frothy COLD shake! I drink it out of my crystal glasses - - love it that way!

For the pudding: I haven't seen grit here either. I normally make it ahead of time becuase I like pudding cold. I put the water and mix in a mini bowl, pop on the lid and shake shake shake - - like i did previously with instant pudding. I then put it in the fridge till I'm ready to eat it.

Hope that helps some!

i've never had grit in hot drinks. use the shaker and mix the drink like you normally would, then microwave it for 30 seconds. there's no grit at all.

use the shaker to mix pudding, too. fill it with COLD water to 4.5 oz, then stir it with a fork for 30 seconds or so. it comes out thick, creamy, and delicious.

I don't shake the hot drinks....I thought the packet said not to use shaker jar, so I thought that meant not to shake....maybe what they mean is that the jar can't go into microwave?!?

You may get grit with the App Supp shakes, they have more fiber.
Pudding can be clumpy... ya gotta smooth it out or use the MB or HM blender.

With the eggs... I NEVER microwave them... yuck!!
I always mix them up (sometimes with my little mixer) then cook them in the skillet.

Great job by the way... keep it up.

You can shake the hot drinks before they're hot...
just don't shake them in the shaker jar while they're hot or it'll explode and you'll
have a big mess everywhere. It hasn't happened to me personally, but there have
been several postings about people doing that (and yeah, they always make me giggle ).

I think what Alex meant ~ and it's what I do, too ~ is to mix the capp or cocoa or chai with
cold water and shake it in the shaker jar, and once it's all mixed up...and grit-less...then warm it up.
Capice?

Um, yah, me, I would be one of those people who have exploded hot drinks. I like to just jump in before I read everything, just my personality. Had to clean hot choc off every appliance in the kitchen. Also have cream colored textured walls. Wasn't laughing while cleaning but after I was done it was kind of funny.

I too, mix the hot choc in my shaker jar BEFORE microwaving now. I also have a mini-whisk thing from pampered chef that I use to stir when it comes out. I use this on my puddings too...haven't had any probs. The whisk was made to use in tall cups or something. Dunno.
