Question for Active Duty DH RE: Medifast

Postby seventhheaven » April 25th, 2007, 6:31 am

Well guys, I am back!
This is my first week back on Medifast...I SHOULD HAVE NEVER GONE OFF>>>>>!
Well that being said, I have inspired my Dh to join in.
He has about 50lbs to loose. The question is regarding PT...he has to workout, so we were wondering what he should do about that.Should he add a suppliment to his 5 and 1 plan?
Thnx in advanced

Hi, Melissa ~

Yes, the 6 & 1 (maybe even 7 & 1 or 6 & 1 plus an extra protein serving) and he needs to have a shake about half an hour before his workout and a bar chaser just after his workout. He will need to drink plenty of water - our muscles require plenty of hydration. He most likely will need some bouillon each day also to avoid muscle cramps. My preference is the Medifast Fast Soup rather than the bouillon because of the additional potassium and the sodium is not as high as in regular bouillon. Sometimes men need that bouillon boost, especially if they sweat a lot and I cannot stress enough the need for lotsa lotsa water.

I know there has been chat here on the MakeMeThinner Forum about people who work out a lot choosing to have 4 Medifast packets plus 2 Lean and Green servings. My experience and that of Nurse Lori Andersen for people on the weight loss phase: we prefer to see them not exercise more than one hour, to have an additional packet (so they are having 6 & 1) and then if needed, have an additional protein serving of 2-3 ounces such as some lean meat, a hard boiled egg or fish such as a can of water packed tuna.

It is in your husband’s best interest to try to begin the program when he is not pushed to the max – this is a low calorie program and not designed for people running marathons, doing heavy workouts, etc. but he will do what he has to do.

May he keep safe and out of harm's way!

THANX NANCY,
For a little clarity, he is on profile...no running, so his workouts are limited to walking under 2 miles. So he is not doing strenuous workouts(hence a lil weight gain)
I think he is gonna go with the 6 and 1 and see how he feels.
Thanx again!

Melissa ~

His work out sounds perfect. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise for people to begin with. Depending upon the temps where he is stationed, remind him to really slurp that water and if he feels weak, wimpy, woozy or his legs are rubbery, to have sodium - even a can of diet Croak will give him a little sodium boost; bouillon would be best as it works so quickly or even salting the back of his hand and having a licky or salting some celery will help him to recover.
