Thanks you ladies for the wows and compliments :) I'm glad that you like hearing about the exercises because I like talking about them!

Biki, I'm 26. Being like me is so easy. I kind of find it hard to believe that I even got here. I mean, I started by doing the C25k and going to Curves. Pretty soon, I'll be at the strength level at the gym which will include those intense cardio classes. Yesterday, my partner at the gym kept telling me how strong I was. I have to admit, my warrior poses at the end of class were looking pretty good. I forgot to mention what we did to warm up yesterday. It was a bunch of drills - jogging, high knees, butt kickers, jogging grapevines (called karaokes), crawling forwards and backwards - by the end of the 10 minute warm up, I had already burned 100 calories.

Lauren, you would love the FIT workout this week. It's the jump rope pyramid: 50-100-150-200-250-200-150-100-50 both backwards and forwards on the jump rope. I don't start the FIT classes until next week so I will let you know how they go. They usually include lots of jogging and jumping. Lunges aren't my favorite things either, but yesterday they were best out of the 3 exercises since I wasn't so good at the lateral handwalks and the body rows get hard after the first set. And yes, you are standing while doing the body rows. You lean back until your body is almost parallel to the ground and try to keep your knees from coming forward when you pull up.

Donna, they took a before picture at the gym. She wanted me to take my shirt off, but I only had a regular bra on underneath. I didn't really want to take a picture in my bra (probably wouldn't have taken it in my sports bra either, but maybe). She had me tuck my tshirt into my bra so at least we will be able to see some changes in my belly, hopefully.

And yes, Hols, it feels great to be on the road to kicking some booty! I'm not there yet, but I'm going to be :)

OK, I feel SO much better knowing how much older I am than you!! I'm doing well, but my joints are way too old and creaky to be crawling around on the floor forward OR backward.

And count me with those who hate lunges. I DO them several times a week, but I never enjoy them. I've been thinking of jumping rope sometimes, too, but I'm not sure my body can take the impact.

Lol, Robin! I'm glad you feel better - plus right now you can probably out run me :)

I seriously doubt that. I still run slower than most people walk (although I'm faster off the treadmill because my stride is longer). And I KNOW you can outcrawl me!!

I should say that the older women show me up all the time in class. By older I mean there are some white haired ladies who are strong as all get out at the gym. Other ladies who look to be in their forties are also doing circles around me at times.

I wanted to check out a Pilates studio to add to my workouts. I've heard such wonderful things about doing Pilates with the equipment, not just on a mat. I found a Pilates studio here in Madison that even has a challenge (I'm a sucker for a challenge) - 30 sessions in 10 weeks for a new body. Guess how much it costs?

Did you guess?

$1800!
Yeah, so maybe I will have to wait on that one

Holy bleep! That's a lot of money for 10 workouts. Walk away. On second thought - RUN as fast as you can!

Well, 10 weeks but 30 sessions. Still a lot of money, though. $60 per workout? Wow.

And re: the old ladies, I know, I'm still a wimp. But then again, I've spent a lifetime being a BIGGER wimp. And hey, once I'm REALLY old - and hopefully retired - I'll have a lot more time to build strength and speed. Right now I have to schedule things around a pretty demanding job (and some VERY demanding dogs). And the TV and couch.

Pilates classes here in NYC are way worse then $60 a pop, usually depends on how personalized the instruction is, but if you do one on one, it can be $100-$150 a session.

Welcome to my hell.

I missed that part. That makes it better - but yeah, still pricey. However, I suppose I'd pay that much to look like Daisy Fuentes.

Yet another reason why my move from NYC to Madison was fortuitous :)

These sessions are one-on-one for an hour with a certified instructor and the Pilates equipment. So $60 a session is actually reasonable? You have to do so many one-on-one sessions before they will let you take the group equipment classes.

I'll have to ask them if looking like Daisy Fuentes is guaranteed for the $1800. Really, the challenge is the best marketing scheme to get my money. $350 for 2 months, sign me up. $1800 for 10 weeks, why not? (That's a joke - for now at least)

$60 for an hour one-on-one isn't bad at all, when you look at it that way. Personal-training sessions at my gym are $39 for half an hour.

Does Lauren have a journal? I looked for it briefly, but I guess I will just ask my question here. Has your body transformed after doing Pilates (I'm assuming you do it regularly since you said welcome to my hell :) )

Anyone else with experience doing Pilates at a studio?

Despite many requests, she refuses to start a journal here. Hmph.
