plateau question??

How often is this supposed to happen? I was in a plateau for three weeks -- (lost .5 lbs over the three weeks). Came off the plateau and lost 8 to 10 pounds over the next 3 weeks and now I'm in one again. I've lost .5 lbs over the last 2 weeks. I get so disheartened when this happens. Is it normal for some people for this to occur every 3 or 4 weeks? I hope its not a pattern for me. I'm hoping to reach my goal by the end of January and it's starting to feel like i'll never get there...

Ivy... :hug: ....easier said than done.......but try not to be disheartened...........every person is different... :huh: ....everyone's weight loss is different.........however if you figure it out .......it seems to be about an 8-10 lb loss each month?.....if that's true than that is a good loss in addition to fueling your system with excellent nutrition..... :yeah: .....keep up the good work.... :burnout: ....with persistance you will win the battle of the bulge.........

Hi Ivy,

I feel for ya kiddo. I was on a plateau for over 4 weeks until just recently when I dropped a couple more pounds.

I think it averages out over the course of time, though. I use a program that tracks weight and weight goals. According to this chart, if I lose about 1.75 lbs a week I should be at my goal at the end of December.

Now..it's wacky...but even with that 1 month plateau, I'm not far off schedule. Because I lost so much the first month, I'm pretty close to where I should be.

Can you try to look at it in the bigger picture rather than just week by week? If you can, you'll see you're doing just great.

If you're doing everything as you should, just keep going.

The only thing I did differently to get out of my recent slump was to get a lot of exercise on one particular day. I had a lot of yard work to do so I drank a shake first..did the work..and then had my bar when I came in. The next day I was down 2 lbs. Another pound dropped since then.

I don't know if it was coincidence or if the exercise made a difference.

Don'tcha just :x hate it when that happens?

I have to say, yes, this may be your pattern. My daughter has this very same weight loss pattern. Her body just likes holding on to the flabbers and then all of a sudden, :wave: it dumps off a load.

It is very frustrating and yet there are some like betz and dlr2424 (Donna is a slow loser, too) who peel off a pound or two at a time. Little by little it will come off, Darlin'. You could show us your daily plan for review.

There really are quite a few factors that affect weight loss - among them

Height - short people lose slower than tall people

Medications, certain diseases or syndromes - people with thyroid disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea to mention a few have slower weight losses than people who do not have them

Aunt Flo - different points in a woman's cycle can affect weight loss

Stress - it slows ya down

Lack of sleep or rest - the body needs time to repair itself – f you don’t get enough sleep the body withholds weight loss

Timing of packets – don’t wait too long between packets – eat every three hours and do not skip packets – 5 /day

Water slurpage - you need to drink 8 glasses/day

Keep on doing it, Ivy. You are already 30 pounds down – it’s working!

Thanks so much. The plateau definitely coincides with TOM. Also, I am short. I'm pretty good with the water and timing but sometimes I get off schedule. Thanks for the support. I decided that I'll try not to weigh for a while that way I'll be really surprised (happily hopefully) when I see the scale. I have a problem with wanting to weigh though. So far it's been a whole day since my last weigh in -- haha. . . wish me luck.

Isn't it bad enough that I am short. I have to buy special pants so I don't walk on them. I can't reach the floor while sitting in a normal size chair. :table: I have to ask my boys to reach a bowl on the 2nd shelf on the cabinet. I have to jump up and down :boing: to see in my mailbox at work. I could go on and on and on......

NOW..........my heighth will also cause me to lose slow. Wonderful.......just wonderful. :bahhumbug: I hate :x tall people......they get everything!!!!!! JUST KIDDING, I LOVE TALL PEOPLE! :hug:

i know exactly what you mean. i have to use something under my desk at work so i can rest my feet on it. otherwise they'd be swinging. sometimes it really sucks to be short.

Yeah, it may be :x skunky being short but at least you have a soap box under your desk you can drag out when ya want the others in your office to pay attention to you! :lol:

Pretty soon you'll be so thinny and :dance: hotsy totsy that when you sashay by the desks of others, you won't need that box to get their attention and to seem important, you will BE important! You can walk by slurpin' on a RTD and toss the empty over your slender shoulder...because you can (if you will)... ;)

Welcome to the "plateau club" - this seems to be my pattern too. I am up to 25 lbs. lost but haven't lost anything in the last week or so. But I KNOW this works - because I haven't lost 25 lbs. in about 25 years!!!

Speaking of catching people's attention. . . today 2 people have commented about how thin I look. that made me happy :) So the plateau seems like less of a problem for now-- it must be working if people have noticed!

Ivy ~

How very :cool: that your friends have told you that you :shades: look thinner - because you are!

Often times we lose inches when the scales are not showing the loss.

I had a number of incidences during my weight loss phase when I would be :eat: extra-hungry and the scale was :x locked up. It took a roll of duct tape and a padlock on the refrigerator door :wallwall: to keep from eating off-program but it seemed that I was always :trophy: rewarded BIG TIME for remaining on-program.

You know plateaus are not so bad when you like the plan. We can do this for as long as it takes because it is simple, taste great and has so many flavors and options to choose from.

Can you count the number of times you hit a plateau and because you were bored got off the diet and gained what you had lost plus some?

You know, I always find it fascinating that people go off-program when hey hit a plateau - as if eating a pizza will really show the scale who's boss!

There were months in my "before Medifast" life I would have willingly relinquished a piece of pie if my weight had plateaued - in those days, it was always climbing. Staying the same weight for one-two weeks would have been welcomed!
