One week down

I'm a newbie. Today is the end of my first week - and I've lost about 6 pounds (a bit hard to tell because I don't have the best of scales - something I will remedy this week!)

I have to say it was a hard first 3.5 days. And in the beginning I didn't think any of this tasted good. The only way I could get the shakes down was to mix them in coffee - and I am not a coffee drinker. But then, around noon on the fourth day - what do you know? I find myself thinking hmmm.... a shake would be good about now! The coffee pot went away and i'm a shaker jar girl!

Some of the products I prefer over others - I purchased the 1 month chocolate lovers special so I'll have to work my way through the ones I don't care for as much. But seeing many of the different recipes on this forum, I'm sure I can make them more palatable for me.

I do have to share a story though ... I work alot so am not home often to do the meals with my kids - hubby takes care of those. So today is the first day on this plan where I've been with them pretty much all day and all they have wanted to do is eat and eat and eat!

I'm in PA and we've pretty much been snowed in today - I've spent the entire day between reading all of the forum posts / recipes / weigh ins on this site and of course feeding them! I made all three of their meals - gave them the countless snacks they asked for all day (in between putting on their hats gloves scarves boots and taking them off). And not once did I even think of grabbing something for myself. I threw away all of their leftovers and was just amazed - before this week - I would have just finished off their plates or their snacks when they were done. Nothing ever made it to the trash can here!

My goal is to lose 35 pounds and I think this time I'm going to do it.

Thanks to all of you for your wonderful insight and the support you all provide. I'm sure I'm going to be using it often in the next few months!

Hi Scrabbler 7,

Congrats on your first week down! I know how hard it is to cook all day ,and give the kids snacks ,and then it being cold on top of it. I have a toddler and that kid eats non-stop and it's a challange not to dip in the mac n cheese, so I give you props for not sneaking a bite here or there. When it's cold I think it's really hard not to want to hybernate, a nice hot meal to warm your belly and then snuggle up on the couch with some popcorn and watch a movie, that was always what my cold days were like in the past. Now when I get a little chilli I warm up a cup of warm boullian broth and some hot tea and it warms my belly just as good. Keep shakin it lady you will be at goal in no time.

Hey there Scrabbler 7,

Way to go--you made it thu your first week. Hang in there. Remeber, one day at a time and it really pays off. You'll be cruising that much closer to that 35lb goal.

Greetings and howdies to you Scrabbler7 ~

You've had an amazing first week - by next week, you'll be a member of the 10 Pound club and be closer to your goal faster than you ever thought possible.

Keep up the great work! The poor garbage collector will have strained muscles from hauling off the left-overs but who really cares? You will be at your goal! Then you can tell the hauler about the Medifast Plus Joint Health shakes to ease their aching body.

Thanks to everyone for their great words of encouragement. This time it feels right and I KNOW I'm going to do it.

BTW - I had a typo in my first message - my goal is to weigh 135 --- i was so stuck on the 35 that I put I needed to lose 35 pounds. It's actually a 43 lb goal. Then we will see where I go from there. If I go by all the "recommended" weights - I should be somewhere between 100 - 125. Those weights seem surreal to me - so I'm borrowing a tool from someone I saw post on this site and setting intermittent goals. When I get to 135 (AND I WILL); then I'll see about another goal.

I do have one question -- :?: I've been on now for about 10 days and I find that I have a touch of insomnia. Has anyone else had this problem? I've been having some trouble falling asleep - but I'm also sleeping very lightly and waking up several times every nite (in addition to a couple bathroom wake ups :) ). Would love to hear if this is normal and will adjust itself out.

YES!

My thoughts - Since it happened to me (the insomnia thing), and still does. As a connoisseur of everything in sight, I was always the one on the couch at 8-9:00pm asleep, totally lethargic after eating, because I ate everything in sight, all the time. The crapola I ate was NOT healthy for me, and must have had that Turkey pill (Tryptophan) in it – everything I ate.

Soon after I began Medifast (about 16 months ago, I was awake, awake all the time. Up till 11:00-12:00 every night, and up at 5:00am. Why? No crapola in the system. Pure energy.

I wish I could say it gets easier, but I still sleep very little. My body has long adjusted to a different way of eating, but the brain still is awake, thus the body is awake, requiring very little sleep.

Worth the trade? Guess so, I say.

Yup, me, too.

There are NO stimulants in Medifast either. Just good food.

We are used to being sedated by the high fats, carbs and preservatives of other so-called food.

Well - guess that's something I'm going to have to get used to. Hmmmm - what will I do with all the extra hours in a day .......

As for the energy thing --- WOW you aren't kidding Yesterday I cleaned out my pantry (and gave away all the food I love but no one in the house eats -- no sense in wasting it), cleaned out my tupperware cabinet, scrubbed the kitchen floor, did loads and loads of laundry ...

SO - where are the downsides??? a skinny me, a clean house, all my chores done ... GO MEDIFAST!

LOL - anyway -- thanks guys - this is a great site. I appreciate it.

    Clean houses
    Mowed lawns
    Shoveled snow
    Tired kids (trying to keep up with you)
    Tired Hubbies (pestering him at 2am)
    New hobbies
    Wore out tenny runners
    Disappearing clothes

Must be 100s of others, but you get the point...:)
