Odd occurence - hungry

Postby FORMOMMY » March 29th, 2006, 11:20 am

So this is my 9th week on MF and for the most part I can honestly say that I usually don't get hungry. However, yesterday and today I have noticed that I have been a tad hungry in between my meals. I really am not doing anything differently - why do you think I would be hungry? Any comments would be appreciated.

I am still battling a cold/allergies and have not been feeling up to par - I wouldn't think this would make me hungry :hmmm:

Hungry

Postby Jan » March 29th, 2006, 11:26 am

Hi Michelle,
I'm going to offer a guess -- educated guess -- but a guess at what's making you feel hungry :x I think that your stomach is a bit irritated by all the drainage that is heading that way. Allergies plus a cold both lead to sinus drainage and it runs right down the back of your throat and ends up in the stomach. When the stomach feels a bit irritated sometimes it send forth the rumbles and grumbles that we interpret as being hungry. Try a pepsid or some other anti-acid. That just may get you through til the cold etc is gone. :D jan

Jan,

Sounds plausible...I am definitely dealing with major drainage from my sinuses - you should see my nose (and I'm using the tissues with lotion) and I am feeling nauseaus alot from the said drainage. :sadblue:

I will try what you said and see if that helps. THanks! Lord knows that I'm not eating anything until my bar with my coffee at 2:30 - nope not gonna do it!!!

Maybe you're getting extra carbs from the drainage...
Just kidding.

How bout the possibility of any cold medicine you're taking?

Nice Unca....very nice.....

I have been taking Mucinx-D (think that is how you spell it) for a couple of days - definitely not Nyquil - learned my lesson on that one. Although someone said I could take the capsules - is that right?

Anyway, I wouldn't think the Mucinx-D would do anything - but then again I'm not a doctor and don't even play one on TV :-P

What's the chances of that being loaded with sugar?

hmmm...the glycolate looks like some kind of sugar.
Don't really know, but it could be moving you a bit out of the fat burning stage and causing some hunger.

Guess we'll know when you get off it....
Did this just start happening when you started the medicine?

I guess it coincides with it since I've only experienced a little hunger yesterday and today. I will stop taking it and just use my Flonase and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if I notice a difference....I am sure you'll be on the edge of your seat waiting for the results.... :couch:

Of course, it could be unrelated. I still have days occasionally when I'm hungry, even if I haven't done anything different. Or maybe you're burning extra calories because you're fighting off an illness.

I used mucinex a while back, and didn't experience any additional hunger with it. However, at the end of 3 weeks of being sick, I WAS hungry (and tired, and generally run down), so I added a supplement, and that did the trick. Didn't slow down my weightloss, but it did seem to help my body heal. Might be something to consider, since you've been fighting the allergies/cold for so long . . .

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hey, Michelle-

You know, the hunger thing I find fascinating. I've been on MF for 20 weeks, and all told, I am almost never hungry. But, I have found that every once in a while (not even once a week), I just have a hungry hour or day or whatever. I am realizing that bizarre triggers could be at play. For instance, on Tuesday I took a Zyrtec for allergies, since the season is upon us. I used to take Zyrtec every day (bad allergies), but I got off it months ago. Anyway, I took it for the first time in ages on Tuesday, and then didn't think twice about it. But for the rest of the day on Tuesday I was RAVENOUS, thought about food all day, and the day was literally moving in slow motion. I love my work and it's very high-paced, so that feeling of watching the clock is not frequent. I was off the entire day, and was so excited for bed time to come, to put me out of my misery! :-)

Anyway, my point? I think that it's possible (and I am not a doctor, but becoming very aware of my body through this diet) that we take in much fewer calories and really minimal "extras," that perhaps any foreign substance could trigger our bodies to freak out. Getting sick or taking a new medication or doing some new work out, whatever it is, seems to have a more profound affect on my body than before.

So, perhaps it's not the actual sugar in your meds. Maybe it's just that the meds are something different, and are holding more territory in your smaller body that is taking in fewer calories?

Just a thought...

Hope you're feeling much better!

Thanks everyone for your input.

Lauren - I am really thinking that this is exactly what is happening. I was thinking about it last night and trying to remember the last time I was hungry like this. It was when I was taking cold/allergy medicine or when I was taking meds for a migraine (I have a history of them; however I have noticed them dwindling since I've been on MF - WOO HOO! :yay: ).

I do think your observations (and others who answered) are right on the money. I haven't given into the hungries but it definitely is hard. I know what you mean about watching the clock...I have a hectic schedule at work as well and usually the day flies by and I have to be careful to get my meals in; but when I have those kinds of days - yikes! :bib:

Thanks again for taking the time to impart some of the wisdom you've learned being a "veteran" losers.

Wow, who would've thought I'd be a "veteran loser!" It's amazing how quickly weight comes off with MF, that being on it for 20 weeks makes me experienced! :-)

Glad to hear your migraines are decreasing. I too have noticed that general ailments are far less frequent. Obviously stomach problems are virtually gone (there wouldn't be anything to cause them!), and head and body aches seem to have diminished as well. All good, right? But yeah, I really think that at the end of the day, small adjustments to our daily diet -through meds or other, have a more substantial impact on us now. Hey, now we know what to look out for and perhaps how to prepare for the future...

You're doing awesome, stick to your guns, and you'll get through the rough hungries and be back in the zen world we've all come to enjoy!

Thanks again Lauren. I just noticed you are almost out of the 70 club!!!! You will be in the 80's in a blink of an eye. ;)

I am pleased with my results; there are some that have lost more in the same timeframe which made me feel a little discouraged at first. But then I just smacked myself in the head :hammerhead: and decided to be happy with the 33 pounds that I've lost in 8 1/2 weeks. Not too shabby.
