An NSV that will make you laugh.....

Postby cynben » February 22nd, 2007, 10:25 am

I spent this past weekend at the nursing home with my Dad. On Saturday, I was walking through the dining room and a little old lady and her daughter were in there, as I passed by, the old lady said loudly (obviously she was a bit hard of hearing) "oh look at that pretty blonde girl". I just smiled and didn't say anything, thinking the woman was OBVIOUSLY in the late stages of dementia. Then, on Sunday, I was sitting with my dad and some of his friends (I took them pizza for lunch) and everyone was talking at once, but my dad (who barely speaks, much less pays attention now) leaned over and said "they are talking about how pretty you are". I hadn't heard a word of it, but it made me feel great!

So, if all else fails, I know that I am a hit with the nursing home crowd!

How wonderful! I bet you felt great for people to be talking behind your back in such a flattering way!

Doesn't that just make you feel so great! One thing you can rely on is that they don't lie, so if they say how pretty you are its a fact. The older my mother gets the more honest she gets and sometimes I wish she would just zip it!!!

Like Sophia on Golden Girls. I still watch it every day! I love that show.

Remember many older folks have lost their "filter" you know the one that filters out what we shouldn't say :D So they generally "tell it like it is" ...

What lovely compliments!! I agree with Jan, many old people tell it like they see it---so when you get a compliment from them, it comes from the heart (and eyes).
