NSV that just brought tears to my eyes...

Postby bikipatra » January 6th, 2007, 3:15 pm

When I got married 4 years and 7 months ago I wore a 4.75 ring size. Since that time and with an over 100 pound weight gain, it had become so tight we had considered having it cut off to give me some relief. We tried every method suggested to loosen it and remove it-soap, Windex, lotion, creams. It just wouldn't come off my pudgy size 7 finger. By Christmas time after almost a month on Medifast my husband was able to buy me a ring (by now everyone knows about the ring I went on about ad nauseum!) in a size 6. My fingers were shrinking. A few minutes ago I put on some hand cream and noticed how loose it made my newer rings that fit on my right hand. Even though I knew it was futile, I tried to take off my 4.75 wedding ring on my left hand. It came right off! After the cream soaked it, it wasn't so loose but I can still move it around on my finger without causing myself pain. I called my mother, sister and husband I was so happy. I don't know how many times I joked to my husband we would never get divorced because that ring was never coming off! It was just a small reminder of what is possible for me.

That's great Biki. We both understand the ring thing. Di has had to stop wearing hers because its so loose (she got a pretty substitute until we are done losing).

Since I started my weight loss journey I have had my de-sized twice. Once from a 14 to 11 back in 2005. Recently from the 11 down to 9.5 because it was almost falling off again.

When we are at goal we have decided to get new rings as a gift to each other for our success.

That's an awesome NSV Biki! I can so relate to your post. Several years ago I woke up to see my size 5 wedding ring so tight around my finger that my finger was turning blue. I had to cut it off myself. You should have seen the gold dust flying everywhere as I sawed that baby off!!!! ( managed to keep my ring finger intact ) I finally got it off and made a promise to myself that instead of taking it to the jewlers to get it refitted in a bigger size, I wouldn't have it repaired until I lost all the weight I had gained and then I would have it repaired at the original size that it was when my husband put it on my finger on our wedding day. Thanks for your post... you just reminded me of another important reason to get rid of all this weight! All the best Biki. :)
