NSV - blast from the past!

Postby fairladyj » March 21st, 2007, 9:56 am

Hi -

As I posted in EMT's journal - major NSV today:

I am really impressed that today I got into size 12 pants for the 1st time in over 20 years. I know I weighed considerably less than now the last time I was in this size - so I know I have been losing in the belly/hip/thigh area (they don't call me thunder thighs for nothin'), even though the scales has been moving slower than I would like.

I tend to be "block-shaped" - big boned, but not very tall - I blame my German ancestors. The sometimes good part is that I can carry more weight than most people my height and not look "fat" - the bad part is, I fooled myself into thinking I didn't look too bad at over 200 lbs and size 16.

thanks for letting me gloat :exercise:

That's for sure...at 150 pounds I expect to be in at least a size 5 (junior). I'm bouncing between a junior size 9 and 7 right now.

What a wonderful achievement! You must be so happy and proud.

My size 12s are staring at me in my closet. I hope to blow the dust off them soon and really can't wait until I drop them all off at Goodwill. (Good riddance)

Cheers!

WOW. I outweigh you by about 14-15 pounds and I PROMISE you I will not be in a 9-7 in 15 pounds. When I weighed 117 pounds I wore a 6.

Well, not only do our bodies differ, but so do clothing sizes. Different makers use different size charts. Also you must realize that a size 12 today would have been a size 14 about 10 years ago. I know this for a fact cause I noticed it and even experimented with old clothing. *sigh*

I had a pair of old (1980's) size 16 pants pre-pregnancies and I could NOT get into them but I was actually fitting into 14s at the time, and some 12s!

Americans are getting larger and "vanity sizing" has taken over. Maybe the sizes will go down again in another 10 years.

So Jennifer, congrats.. and if those are ORIGINAL size 12s well wait till you go shopping girl haha! Way to go!! :)

Yeah - I know about vanity sizing. Back in the '80s I worked in a women's clothing store - that was the last time I wore 12. They were definitely smaller then. - There also was no such thing as a size 0 then.

For comparison, in the '60s, Twiggy wore a size 7, and Marilyn Monroe is variously reported as a 12 or 14 in the '50s

Still feels good to be down 2 sizes in under 3 months - I'll take my reinforcement where I can get it!
