Niagra Falls ~ Anyone Been???

Postby Arklahoma » July 9th, 2006, 10:03 am

Okay, I'll admit it ... I'm a planner.

My DH and I are renewing our wedding vows in Sept. 2007 and we want to do it in Niagra Falls. We've never been before and when I started searching online about it, there just seems to be sooo much information. It will just be him and I but we want it to be nice & not cheesey. Several little family excursions that we've been on turned out to have some cheesey components even with months of online planning (one time a pricey Limo service picked us up at the Detroit airport only to actually be an old clunker Town Car with LIMOS-R-US on the side ~ I'm not kidding and we were absolutely mortified).

Anybody ever been? Any recommendations on accomodations, ministers, ceremony locations, music, florist, etc???

Ark,

I hope I don't sound like a copycat, but hubby and I are planning the same thing when I get to my goal weight. I've spoken to a lot of people who've been to the Falls and one thing they have all said is the Canada side has a much better view. They all stayed at different hotels, but the people who stayed at the Marriot raved the most. I don't know much about wedding planning there. I hope what info I did give you helps. Good luck with planning, and if you go before me, let me know how it goes.

My Aunt is a travel agent. She has been EVERYWHERE!!! I will pick her brain. I am sure she will have some ideas and maybe even some discounts. The discounts are not a promise, but the ideas are!! My best friend got married in the Virgin Islands. My aunt gave her all of the contacts. She just showed up, and did it. Site unseen. It was beautiful. It was not at a resort, either. It was on top of a cliff, near the ocean, at sunset. Then, there were little wagons that took everyone off to the beach side reception. AMAZING. If she can pull that off, with flowers, horsderves, and cake and decorations, she can surely give you some contacts for a vow renewal. Niagara Falls is on my list of places to go before I die. I can't wait to hear how your trip goes.

Ketann ~ Thanks for your input and no worries about the copycat thing. I have heard that the Canadian side is better than the US side. I was just looking online at some hotels and the Marriott is definitely a contender.

SuperMom ~ WOW, what an inside track!!! Not worried about discounts, just the best experience ever. We renewed our vows for our 5th wedding anniversary it was wonderful. We're doing it every five years now. Can't wait to see what you discover.

I live about 40 minutes away from Niagara Falls and go there all the time.

It's a quick little getaway for us. Plus my mother loves to gamble over there.

The Canadian side is a million times better than the NY side (sad to say).

There are a ton of nice hotels, my favorite was the Renaissance. You can go to Niagara Falls Hotels (dot com) for some good package rates. I use this site ALL the time, as the rates seem to be cheaper than going through the hotel directly.

There's also Niagara Weddings Canada (dot com) that performs cermonies.

Took the family there last summer. Most definitely stay on the Canadien side. The new Falls View Casino looks very nice. We stayed at a comfort inn off of Clifton Hill. This was nice for the family but for romance I am sure you can do better.

Sept. should be a good time. School is back in session and the rates should drop at that time.

Hi

I've been to Niagra, but just cruising around for the day. I did watch every episode of wonderfalls though...

Sounds fun and awesome though! What a fun thing to plan!

Is that the ome where the lady works in the shop in Niagra Falls and things on the shelf come to life and talk to her? That's on LOGO now. I've been catching episodes as they go.

Thanks, Guys!!! My goal is to get a suite with the most amazing view of the falls. Only problem is that every hotel SWEARS that their view is the best. I just don't know how I'm gonna decide on a suite from OH. The Marriott claims to have a chapel at the penthouse level where we could renew our vows with a view of the falls in site. I'm checking it out along with the other links you guys suggested.

Wow, those pics from their chapel are amazing! I had to go and look at the Marriott because there is a Marriott that's a little further in from the falls.

I've only stayed at the Skyline Brock right at the falls (they're all across the street from the falls).

Thanks for the tip. That's what all the companies seem to say.
