Newbie to board

Postby Marycshady » October 31st, 2004, 6:18 am

Hi All,
I just found this board today! I have been on Medifast since Sept. 20 but have fallen off my program in the last 3 weeks. I have some questions and maybe you can help me. I am in my late 30's, 5'5, & weigh 185. I started dieting on Sept. 1 and at that point I was 200 lbs. I started the 5 & 1 plan and stuck to it 100% and only lost 10 pds. in 4 weeks, I was tired and listless all the time. I literally felt like sh** so I started incorporating more food and now have fallen off. I want to get back on but I don't want to feel terrible all the time. My typical day was
B: shake
MS: Shake
L: Soup & crackers
AS: Bar
D: 4-5 oz. chicken & salad
BS: shake
I believe I was doing the plan correctly so why did i feel so terrible all the time? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Mary,
How long were you on the program "exclusively"?
Were you getting all your water?

Hi Mary,

Your loss sounds perfectly reasonable for being on the 5 & 1 plan, in fact, pretty darned good! Feeling tired and listless will go away once your body detoxifies and gets used to your new "diet". I think most will agree that once you burn through that first two weeks, you'll find that you actually have more energy, need less sleep and feel all around BETTER than you did before!

How's your sugar? Might you be hypo-glycemic? Sugar makes me VERY tired so you may want to get some blood tests and make sure your body is handling the sugar ok. You might do better on the diabetic products, but I wouldn't switch to those without consulting your doctor first. Are you taking a GOOD multivitamin? One thing you must carefully monitor is your health. When you lose weight this quickly, your body changes fast and you need regular monitoring by your physician. I really suggest getting a referral to a weight specialist. They are much more familiar with protein based diets like this, and can give you much more accurate information than your regular physician can, in most cases.

Good luck to you Mary, stick with us and we'll SHAKE that extra poundage right off you!

UT,
I was on the diet exclusively for three weeks. After that I started adding in a breakfast of an eggwhite omelette because I was feeling so dragged down. But after that I started nibbling here and there until I was totally off program. I did go to dr. I will take all blood tests tomorrow just to rule out any other problems.
Thanks for your replies. I am looking forward to starting again. I set the date for Nov. 12th as we are going on vacation from the 3rd until the 11th.

Hi there and welcome, Marycshady ~

Your meal schedule looked real good.

Were you eating all of your meals on time? Never skipping meals?

Often I find that people skip meals, double up on shakes and they are not getting the proper rest they need during the first few weeks.

Some people feel a bit like they have the flu the first week or so during detox but once they get through it, they feel super.

Did you have a cup of Fast Soup or some bouillon? It helps immensely to correct that 'washed out' feeling. Taking all those trips to the sandbox can make ya feel a bit weak.

I hope that you have a great vacation, get those tests done and we'll C U back here, ready to get skinny!

Hi there! I know I felt kinda "weak" or low energy the first 4 days or so. Since then, I've really had more energy than usual. I think it's cause I'm not getting all that "crap" (artificial fillers, chemicals, toxins, etc) into my body right now! If you had a 'sweet tooth' you may be going into what I call "sugar withdrawal!" My main addiction was starchy carbs, so I didn't have the sweet thing, but oh did I have caffeine withdrawal! I drink way less now, and that's only a good thing!

See what your doc says with the tests. If I ever feel shaky or hungry I drink the bouillon, it helps me perk up right away. I'm doing full fast, shakes, bars, and soups. I think your weight loss on the 5-1 plan sounds like it's darn good too! Just think, 10 pounds of fat gone!! That's a big success.
