I'm not putting this in the studio, because it's more about the story than it is about the pictures. Unca, hope that's okay with you.
My summer goal, as stated
here, was to be in the 190s by Memorial Day weekend, because of a trip I was taking with my hubby. Well, I made that goal (198!), and that opened up a couple of opportunities for me that wouldn't have been available (or I wouldn't have taken) 60 lbs ago. My hubby is an ultra-light pilot, and we were meeting up with some friends of his. One of those friends has a two-seat plane, and I got to take a ride. All the old insecurities started popping up before the flight, and I had to actually bite my tongue to keep from asking, "Are you sure the plane will make it off the ground with me in it?" He'd taken another guy for a ride the day before, and I surreptitiously found out that the guy weighed around 225, so I kept repeating in my head, "If it held him, it will hold me. If it held him, it will hold me." Then, of course, came the moment of standing next to the plane, thinking "There is no way on God's green earth that I am going to fit into that tiny little seat." But I did, and then some! We actually had to cinch up the seatbelts. And here I am:
That's me in the back seat. My hubby (you see the yellow wing of his plane at the top of the picture) was the photographer. And, just to prove I'm actually enjoying myself, here's me smiling:
Well, it lost a little clarity in the re-sizing, but trust me, I'm smiling.
And here's one of the amazing sights you get to see when you've lost enough weight to go up in a small plane:
There were tons of wild horses around, and we got to fly along with them while they ran. They were beautiful. It really was a thrill. And speaking of horses, before we left, I actually got to ride one. I'd done a fair amount of riding as a kid, but had a really nasty fall in the summer 1998 (knocked unconscious, trip to the emergency room, couldn't walk for about a month, those kinds of things), and had only been up on a horse once after that. Then, I gained all kinds of weight, and even though I'd been offered a ride a couple of times, I never took it because I had this crazy fear that I would hurt the horse. Also, I was so uncomfortable in my body that I knew I wouldn't be able to control the horse (if that makes any sense). But I got up on one this trip (he was a real sweety!), and it felt so, so good!
All of this to say: Stick with the plan. Keep your eye on your goals. There's so much more to life when we're gaining control of food and our health. Plus, this helps me reaffirm my commitment to the program, and to getting the next 58 lbs off.
Thanks for letting me share.
