new here, need clarification about water requirement

Postby kayhamil » July 20th, 2006, 6:13 am

I am new to this site, but have been on MF for 7 weeks... the first six weeks, I lost 25 lbs... this past week..NOTHING... I have 125 lbs to lose so its too early for a plateau.... I am eating only one bar, if that a day... only one snack a day, if that....
the only thing I can think of is my water consumption... I drink about 4 20 oz bottles of water mixed with one crystal light to go pack.... now I have read different things about this... some info says water with crystal light is fine, other info says no....
could someone please clear this up and if crystal light with water is not counted as part of the required water could you please explain why that is?
thank you very much...

Hi Kay,

First off, it's very normal to have a plateau. In fact, it's common to have a plateau in the 3rd week. Don't panic. If you stick to the program, you will continue to lose weight.

My understanding of the water issue is that you should have at least 64 oz. of just plain water each day. In addition, you can have coffee, tea, diet soft drinks, and diet fruit drinks. Some people don't have that much plain water. I don't think it makes a difference as far as the rate of weight loss goes, but the plain water is best in flushing out the fat, so to speak. It gets easier. I had to force myself to drink that much water and it took months before it became easy.

This is not MF rules but I have often read and heard that you should drink half your body weight in water. If you weigh 300 that would be 150oz or 250 would be 125oz. I personally drink 120+ ounces of plain water a day.

I know from other programs I have done in the past nothing counted towards your water except plain water.

I like what WW says about this. They say to drink half of your water intake as a noncaloric beverage IF you want. But I really like what someone else said on here, to drink all of your water as plain clean water and then anything afterwards can be crystal light.

I would NEVER drink water as a kid and early adult, then I got more into it. Now I don't have a problem at all with water. For me it was finding a brand of water that I liked. I really like Sparklets but now it's not sold in stores, only delivery. I also like Le Nature's. But there are other brands that I won't touch! That might work for some that have a hard time drinking water.

My noncaloric addiction is Tropicana Orange Ade Light. I drink too much of that stuff!!!

Sablebaby I thought I was the only water snob. unfortunately the pocketbook cant support my water habbit so I drink sams choice most of the time. But I can totally tell the difference. I actually prefer Aquafina.

Six weeks isn't too early for a plateau. I have (had) 190 pounds to lose, and I had a plateau in my third week.

scale stuck

Postby alohacate » July 21st, 2006, 10:37 am

I feel for you, my scale has defied me for about a week (I'm in week four). Hang in there and the scale will move soon enough!! Have you taken measurments or kept track of your body fat? My weight loss stalled but my body fat has been decreasing - which is a really good thing!

I drink about 64 oz of plain water every day. I may also have a glass of pop and tea too. It's hard to stick to drinking a huge amount of water. I have heard that 64 oz is just fine.

Also, your plateau may be telling you to get your body moving a little. Have you done exercise? Take a walk, do extra housework, bike ride, anything where you're moving more will get ya going again.

GOOD LUCK!
