LOL, too funny!
I was a teen in the 80's and I loved everything my older sister liked---including David Cassidy and of course Davy Jones, lol. I was quite the Davy fan, I religiously recorded every episode of The Monkees on MTV (they had a big comeback tour in the 80's) and got to go to two concerts!! Woo Hoo.
Here is a funny Davy story,( well now the pain has subsided, I can say it is funny, but at the time I was devistated!)....
When I was 17 I was having some pretty severe health issues, and my doctor sent me to a special clinic in Beverly Hills for 8 weeks. (That is another experience all in itself!), and my mom and Grandpa came with me to L.A. while I was getting the treatment I needed. So every day I was sweating to death in saunas, exercising and taking weird supplements, my mom and grandpa were sight seeing and having a ball, lol. I was the only kid at the clinic with tons of adults and many starving actors (LA!), so I really met a lot of different people. Well, they all thought it was endearing how I loved the Monkees, and someone found out that he was in town for the day and arranged for me to meet him. I was beyond thrilled, as you can imagine any 17 year old would be, meeting thier idol. One of the clients at the clinic let us borrow his expensive camera and loaded the film for me, and off my mom and I went to our appointment to meet Davy!!
It was pretty neat, he was very nice, and even his photographer took pictures of the two of us together, he gave me an autographed copy of his new book and then he kissed me on the cheek! My mom took tons of pictures for me, it was like a dream for this poor girl.
Well the next day I ran to the 1 hour photo in the Beverly Center and when I went back to get the film, the man told me whoever loaded the camera didn't load the film properly and all it did was stretch and we did not get one single picture. I was devistated, and cried all the way home to the hotel. My mom and grandpa came home a couple hours later and they said I was sitting on the bed looking like I lost my last friend, lol. Then I told them what happened, and my mom said it was so sad, but she had to go in the bathroom to laugh because I was so forlorn sitting on the bed crying. She said I told her nobody will believe me now!!! (Honestly in the 80's nobody probably thought Davy Jones was all that great, lol) I was such a drama queen, too funny. I can totally see my daughter doing this now, it is weird!
So I never had the pictures to prove that I met my dream man, but I always have my memories.
I wrote to Davy many times asking if he could send me copies of our pictures that the photographer took, but for some reason I never heard back
Ok, that took longer than I thought to type, it is much quicker to just tell the story!
Hugs,
Julie
