OK, so two blenders, and NOW my Magic Bullet this afternoon. It just DIED, and I can't find my stupid manual. I am going to return it tomorrow, and they better take it back! I even only used a teensy tiny bit 'o crushed ice like everyone says! :(

I am blender cursed.

Now I gotta drink a chunky shake. :(

Carbs, I wanted a Magic Bullet until I read about the crushed ice problem. I decided to stick with my big blender until a couple of weeks ago when some unknown family member cracked the glass jar to it! :x Until I could get a new jar I was off to walmart to see what they had. I got a Hamilton Beach personal blender for $13 and some cents. Its not fancy like the bullet, just one container but it does come with a travel lid if you want to take your drink with you. Boy, does it tear up those ice cubes [big ones, not crushed] and it makes a great frozen shake. Its just plastic, but I like it. The directions don't say anything about being careful with ice so I crush away.

Carbs,

I bought a magic bullet when starting this diet. I love it except that I am terrified to put ice in it. I only have ice cubes from trays, and the few times that I put 1 or 2 cubes in it the Magic Bullet shook and was horrifyingly loud!

I am sorry for your blender woes and can sympathize. When my Magic Bullet dies, I would go with the $13 blender previously mentioned. I bought the Magic Bullet because my 500 watt blender died recently after using it infrequently for about a year. Frankly, I am sick of blenders dying off all the time. Perhaps. one day, I can actually aford the $369 to purchase a vita-mix...

I was one whose magic bullet died from ice cubes. With my second one I have only filled my ice trays halfway and my bullet is fine. I use tons of ice for each shake and it hasn't died. It is loud, but it seems to be fine. What I don't like the MF smell in all the containers. Does anyone know how to get rid of that? I clean them with soap as soon I am finished with my shakes. I think the smell is gross.

I totally agree, the smell is horrible. I hold the shaker jar away from my nose just to cpen it. Plastic is slightly porus and absorbs the smell of stuff in it. The containers smell like all the shakes blended together and it's gross. I keep meaning to try soaking a mixture of baking soda in it to see if it will help, but I ran out and I have to pick some up at the store.

I am also a murderer! However I finally found one that would let me abuse it and still keep on going. :pour: I love love love the Osterizer Beehive Classic 500 watt blender!!! It has special blades that snaps ice into puree in seconds. Its got a great review on Epinions too and did I mention it comes in chrome and red chrome? HOT! :shades: I have been through five blenders in the last 6 years. Take it from me, this things screams like a freight train, but it crushes like one too.

Magic Bullet Fixer Upper

Postby betz » September 24th, 2005, 10:03 am

Hi, just thought I'd let you all in on something I discovered this week.

I bought a Magic Bullet and within a week it consumed it's own gasket--you know that clear "O" Ring around the inside of the section that holds the blade?

I talked to the fella I bought it from (on Ebay) and he said it's a common complaint but that he's seen the rings sold on Ebay.

I did a search and found them (they say they're better quality), ordered them (about 9.00 for four) and tried one today in my Bullet. It worked just fine and I'm back in business.

So far, it seems (as many of you have discovered) too much ice (maybe any ice other than crushed?) or just overfilling the jars will get the thing in a mess. This doesn't solve everything but if the life of your Bullet is depending on that silly little O ring...this is a great find. :)

Best wishes!

My MB has "eaten" one gasket, too. I've been using it since February, and am on now on my 2nd gasket. Other than that one incident, and the fact that my kids have to cover their ears whenever I make a shake, it has been great. I probably use 7-9 ice cubes each time and it chops them up like a champ.

hungry Magic Bullet

Postby betz » September 24th, 2005, 11:18 am

Yeah, I used my second gasket too, until I received the replacement (I wanted to test the new ones out). It's good to know that there is an easy fix if it gets hungry again.

I have the vita mix and I LOVE it. Works so much better than the magic bullet and hamilton personal blender combined.

A vita-mix is currently on my wish-list. They're expensive but look to me to be well worth it.

My current conclusion is that the Magic Bullet is a good idea but made too cheaply. Since my previous posting, I've actually shelved it and gone back to my blender.

Do you make anything hot in your vita-mix? I'm so intrigued with that idea.

Yes, I make a yummi "what's in your fridge today" soup. The Vita Mix comes with a recipe book, you use their base and take off from there. My kids use it for smoothies all the time. It does great with ice. We bought it at our local county fair 3 years ago for about the price you mentioned. But it was on our wish list and we saved for it.

TK-- I've been telling myself that when I reach my goal weight, the Vita-mix will be my present to myself. :)

It will be a means toward continuing healthy cooking/ food preparation and convenience instead of rewarding myself with crappy food.

I'm intrigued with the idea of grinding my own flours and butters. I've heard the recipe books are excellent.
