Mother of 5 starting at 218lbs at., Looking for some help!

Postby monique62579 » July 18th, 2007, 8:29 am

Hi everyone, my name is Monique and I am a wife and mother of 5 children ages 7, 6, 5, 2, & 10 months. I am 5'0" at 218. I was so desperate to get this weight off that I actually considered gastric bypass surgery. I was approved my by insurance and was given the go ahead, but thanks be to God I didn't go through with it, because I don't think my body could have handled it.So this is the route I have decided to take, I saw the commercial for it about a year ago and remembered it. I went to the main medifast website and thought to myself, man if I could afford this I know I could do it and meet my goal weight in a little over 4-5 months. I prayed and asked God to open the door for me to be able to do it. Praise God, he did! My husband who is a penny pincher usually says no to these kinds of things because he doesn't think I'll be able to stick to them. But this time, he said ok, let me read up on it and we'll see. He read up on it last night and said ok, but you have to promise me you'll stick to it. So from the day I start my husband every 7 days will be my drill sergent, he will take my weight and measurments and chart them to keep track. That way I am held accountable for my eating actions. I need that type of stability if i am to finish this. It shows me that he is in it with me, not just watcing and waiting for me to get skinny. So ladies and men, if you have any room for me in your support group I would love to be apart of it in reaching my goal. Please feel free to e-mail me any time at

Hi Monique! Wow - you really have your hands full with all those little ones. I have 3 kids - ages 17 and 15 years and 1 year old. I'm 5'2" and 228. I did MF after my 15 year old was born and lost about 50 pounds in a few months. But when I quit, unfortunately I just stopped cold turkey and went back to my regular eating. I slowly regained all my weight.

I had to admit though, I was on track and restarted in APril of this year, did wonderful for the first week (lost 9.5 lbs first week!) and then week 2 started "cheating". On this program, you just simply cannot cheat -- at all!

I'm restarting myself today -- day 1! I'm doing this under my dr. supervision and am doing the full-fast. I know many on the boards are doing 5 shakes/replacements and 1 lean and green meal. But the program can also be done on shakes/replacements only. Sometimes you have to do that to break the psychological factors of overeating.

Good luck to you. Stick with the program -- it REALLY does work as you will see and hear on this board. Glad your husband is supporting you too -- that is a necessity!

 Welcome. I am so glad you joined us. This is the best support group ever. If you need anything just ask. We can anwser almost any question. I am still losing. But there are a lot of health advisors on this board, and also maintainers. Who have done fabulous on this program.
The only thing I say Do it for a week and then you will fall in love with this program.
Also if you are going to do all supplements make sure you are under doctors care.
Katie
Good luck you can do it.

What to expect...

Full fast? Does that mean only shakes and food on the program meaning no lean & green meal ? I am still learning so I am taking baby steps. I just don't quite understand how it works yet. If I want to lose the most weight I can on this diet should I do the 5&1 or do the full fast with only the supplemented food from Medifast? Please tell me exactly how my day should go or give me an example of what my food menu for the day should be like. I don't really have anything to go by.

Hi Monique,

Welcome!

In my opinion it is much easier to do the 5/1 plan (5 MF supplements and 1 lean & green meal). The L&G meal can really be satisfying but be sure to weigh and measure your food and not just guess. Plus with a family you may find it easier to be able to have a meal with them and cook something that everyone can eat. I have done it both ways and there wasn't enough weight loss difference to matter in the big picture of things.

When your order arrives read the quick start guide. Plus join the Medifast or Take Shape For Life site and there is lots of additional information you can download.

This really is a simple plan and it works!

That is great your husband is supportive, but I hope he doesn't really become your "drill sergent". My husband is very supportive too, it sure makes a world of differnece, but only you can truely be accountable for your actions.

Good luck on the plan and come here often for support and questions.

Most days I do a 5-1. Somedays, either because I am not feeling well or because I can't eat my lean and green when I want to (I hate eating it too late), I will do a 6-0. I don't do them often and haven't found that in the long run they make much of a difference in my weightloss.

Welcome to the forums and to MediFast!

I look forward to my L & G each day but I've also, on occasion, done the 6-0 (6 supplements and no L & G) if the day or my pantry doesn't support having a L & G. :)

I wish you every success and hope you'll start yourself a journal, post in it often and interact here as much as your life allows -- I do believe the interaction, with others going through the program, has made doing the program more enjoyable and more 'doable' for me.

Welcome and a caution. My BFF was the mother of 5 and lost 75 pounds on MF. She is now the mother of 6 lol. If this is your plan that is fine if not be carefull. As a mother with two young ones I also want to remind you not to lick your fingers when making snacks etc. I never knew I was such a finger licker until MF. This is a GREAT group of people and you have tons of support. Unlike others I was very hungry the first couple of weeks. I literally posted every hour or so to get through it and still visit the site when hungry and not yet time to eat. So do not be afraid to read and post to get through it. WE ARE HERE TO HELP. It takes a village :D Mytime

Mytime had good advice. Also as Tawanda said, this support can really be the key for some people to sticking it out. I don't believe I would have lost even 2 pounds without my cyberfriends here, as there is no one around me doing MF in 'real life.' This is a wonderful place full of support and honest discussion, and kicks in the pants when you need them. Welcome!
