Miss Baggy Pants

Postby DonicaB » May 16th, 2005, 2:20 pm

Apparently some of my co-workers think it is time for me to go shopping because today they were calling me 'Miss Baggy Pants". I am still wearing the same capris that I wore at the beginning of the school year. However, now I have to gird them up with a belt. They are too big but I refuse to go and buy new ones since Friday is the last day of school.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't really want to buy a lot of IN BETWEEN clothes. I admit I love to shop, but I don't want to waste the money on stuff that will hopefully be too big in a few months. Thank goodness I don't have to work during the summer and can just grunge around in shorts. I actually have shorts from several years ago that are a size smaller than I am wearing now so I am pretty set on shorts.

What have you guys done about the IN BETWEEN clothing?

BTW~~I loved being called Miss Baggy Pants. It sure made my day.

I'm so with you! I HATE having to buy new clothes that will only last me a short time. What I do is wear a size until I just can't possibly get away with it anymore. I can get away with this because my boss doesn't care what I wear  Of course, my boss is my 1 year old. I also have a few items of clothing at just about every stop along the way that will hopefully be enough to get me to where I need to go. The only area that I can't get away with this is with the bra. I can only let that go so long. I do have a feeling I'm going to have to break down and buy some summer stuff. Because I know, once I really start getting down there I'm going to actually WANT to go out in public more, so will need to look somewhat presentable.

Donica-

I too am a member of the baggy pants club. I have dropped 3 sizes since I started MF. But see, I have a variety of smaller sizes in my closet due to the fact that I just kept growing and growing. The size I am in now is getting too big!!! So the behind area is starting to sag. I have no smaller options in my wardrobe available. I think I will try to just buy a couple pairs of pants to get me through to the next level.

Well, my weight loss has been slow lately. I needed some shorts and stuff so I dropped 200 bucks at Lane Bryant today. I will love it when I can stop giving them money for double digit clothes. I was sensible though. I bought some cute Boho and beaded skirts that will fit now and when I lose weight because of the way they are cut. And khaki shorts in summer are better when they are baggy!

I am really not motivated to shop at all. I too don't want to waste mony on clothing that could be too big in the coming months. Last week I did have to get some new things for a very important meeting I had last week and a couple things for my trip to Jamaica. It was great fun to shop for smaller sizes! I was shocked!! And excited.

I happen to LOVE baggy pants too though. I love all the room to move around. I am not a pants person by nature. The less clothing the better, so to have fitting clothing really makes me crazy. I own 1 pair of jeans and hardly ever wear them. I like my baggy khaki capris!!!

BLASPHEMERS!!!!!

Maybe because I'm an apple I *have* to buy new clothes because they just fall off? (literally!) Forget 3 sizes to butt sagging! I've been wearing my 14s for maybe 2 weeks and the butt & legs are completely baggy.

Old Navy, Target, Walmart, and other bargain stores are really affordable & have cute stuff. Plus, you look SMALLER when you wear SMALLER clothes. Wearing too-big clothes (sorry gals, but it's true) makes you look BIGGER.

But here are tips on in between clothing: avoid WOVEN tops. They'll be in the fits well range for very little time. Go with knit tops. Polos look good fitted or looser, as well as all other kinds of stuff. SHOP CLEARANCE! It is *so* your friend! For day to day, how about cheap tank tops, t-shirts (fitted style, not men's tees... i seem to remember that target had cute tees on sale this week for 5.99...), a cute knit skirt? Lots of knit tops will be able to be used in different ways - I had one that turned into tunic length, another that can be used kind of 80s style off the shoulder with a camisole underneath. You might feel silly but try out some new combos!

Oh yeah - EBAY!!! You can find some AMAZING deals (I should know - I just finished selling off the entire contents of my closet!!!).

Slightly baggy pants, IF baggy in the right way can actually make you look slimmer. Better than too tight pants anyway. Even when I was a size 6, I would buy size 8 pants because the way they would hang on my hips made my stomach look completely flat. However, when pants start to bag in the rear it is time to get a smaller pair. My poor husband insists on wearing pants like this and they make his flat booty look even punier

BK you are my HERO and inspiration 8) You totally ROCK in the shopping department woman ;)

I have pants in alllllllllll ranges at least down to 12. After 12 it's off to the store because the option is NEKKID hehe. But shirts are a different story. I'm chesty and I've never worn ANYTHING fitted because that would show my tummy.........or as I generally refer to it as the BIG FAT FLABBY MONSTER! But.........once I get into a good size large instead of x-large or 2X I will buy some smaller shirts JUST FOR YOU BK! :D

And you really do have good ideas on shopping 8)

Have you all tried Susies Deals? Everything is new and 5$. They have a plus size section and I do alot of shopping there. To find a store near you go to
<snip>no urls please - Mr. Snippy</snip>

I've found name brand clothing there (I've found Avenue clothing there)

Also try the thrift stores. My favorite is Savers cause they have new and used items. I've also shopped at Burke's, it's a discount store. Not all areas or states have them. I live in So. Cal near Los Angeles and i have to go to Palm Springs to shop at Burkes.

Christi - you're a doll! I think I was well trained by the women of my family :) :) I only had pants in 2 sizes (about 1 year ago I finally donated the stuff from high school) so it's kind of been necessary. My next 3 pairs of jeans in the queue I found for around $13.50 apiece (cuffed capris on clearance from Old Navy - rolled down they were the perfect length for this shorty!).

Even with the tummy you can wear fitted things. Remember that deep v-necks, scoop necks, etc. will enhance your top and draw attention away from the belly monster. It's all a matter of making your boobs look bigger (yes, even if you're already chesty)! :) Add a nice bra & you're all set.

Also remember to get versatile items. Like I said before, things that you could conceivably turn into something else (like top to tunic), as well as the kind of item. Those printed skirts are pretty, but not worth the price for the amount of time you'd be wearing them right now! But I always make sure I have some kind of outfit that's good to wear out on the town. I don't need to be stuck inside because I have nothing to wear!

Don't forget to check thrift stores (like Goodwill) if you have good ones!

I bought a really cute printed skirt at Lane Bryant today that is VERY au courant and will fit me for a while because it has an elastic waist band. According to all the magazines, long, loose and flowy skirts are in. Even in a size 4 this style skirt has an elastic waist band so it isn't just for big girls! I am all for saving money but unless it is to find a great vintage piece, I am not wearing thrift store clothing. Life is too short and there are no dress rehearsals. Life isn't going to start and become valuable when I am thinner. I am not going to wait to become FANTABULOUS. I think I am pretty awesome right now and I shop like it. Why? Because I can! (I am borrowing your line, Nancy.) Regardless if I am a size 18-20 for only a month or two, I am going to be the cutest most fashionable size 18-20 I can afford to be. If I were to wear cheap clothing right now I would feel like the fat me didn't deserve to look good. I spent my first winter fat in men's XL black sweatpants. I wore them to nightclubs, I wore them to nice restaurants, I wore them to bed...you get the picture. I bought three pairs and rotated them. I was "waiting" until I was acceptable enough to buy "real" clothes. What if I get hit by a bus next month? I hope would not have spent the last month of my life in someone else's tossed away used clothes.

Biki - I wasn't talking about the skirts you bought today (those sounded lovely). I meant the ones with the printed scenery. They are too "statement" and not versatile enough (usually you can only find ONE top to wear with them). Fortunately they seem to not have stuck with the summer collections and the retailers are sticking with prints that can be used as neutrals. And although they're cute in the store, those pleated cotton skirts are a you know what after the first time you wash them! I think the boho look is great for weight loss because you really can't tell that the skirt's too big until it falls off!

As for thrift stores, most of them have great deals on new with tags clothes. I don't frequent them but I know a lot of people have great thrift stores near them. But I like your attitude! No time to waste not being cute!

I wanted to comment on the wearing clothes that are too big make you look bigger concept...

Last week, my 90 year old aunt and I went to run some errands. She asked me how much weight I had lost (she is a good supporter!)...I told her 20 lbs and she said she could really tell in my face...I was like, what about every place else? She said "wear clothes that fit and I could see what you look like under there!"... I had on a pair of sweats to which she said "those are so big I could get in there with you!". SHe was right, they were big to start with.

I hate to buy clothes for myself. I have a vast array of clothes from 22/24 to 14/16 in the closets and drawers. I have bought only 1 thing to take on vacation.

I'll hit the stores when the 14/16 are gone!

Have a good day all...Lee Ann

LOL, what a great post!

I absolutely LOVE this part of it. In my last 10 pounds of weight loss, I've seen a pretty big change body wise. Time to weed out the closet again.....

Last week I took 2 large garbage bags of clothes to the womens shelters and they represent ALL THE PLUS SIZE CLOTHING I HAD LEFT. My house is now strictly 'normal' size clothing. What a feeling!

I was extremely dim-witted when I started this journey - I told myself that I didn't want to buy transitional clothes (waste of money) so I would just have to suffer through with what I had till I got there. DUHHHH!!!!! There is NO WAY I can wear that stuff. And I refuse to feel guilty about buying transitional clothes now. I buy em and hand over the card with a big ole grin. I deserve it. And there's a WHOLE NEW WARDROBE waiting for me somewhere down the line, WOOHOO!!!!

Oh, this may seem really stupid, but one of my happiest moments was actually just getting back into single digit undies! I was size 13 forever......trust me 9 feels like heaven!! LOL

It is SO WORTH IT.

This weekend DH started saying that I was wearing Clown Pants. (This while I am dancing around delighted with my weight loss. -- So now the Miss Baggy Pants in our house has now evolved to Miss Clown Pants.) This is a fun problem to have.

Like many others I have a closet full of many sizes. Clearly it was time to start piling up Clown Pants for the Church Rummage sale and dig through the closet to see what I could find. While I don't seem to have many clothes at my current size (need to lose a few more pounds first), I have found a couple of pairs of pants to wear to work this week.

Yesterday, the big boss (male) made a comment: haven't you lost weight? a ton of weight? you look just great! Then, today, another male member of our management team also commented on my significant weight loss. So did I get the comments because my pants fit better this week? I can only guess.

I don't want to go out and buy a lot of transitional clothes. I am hoping that my closet can get me through. However, I just might be tempted to fill big gaps. I would try to go with the minimum and inexpensive on the sale rack and then decide that when the time comes, they become donations to those that need them. Good Luck, all!
