Mary! That is FANTASTIC!!! I'll bet you feel like a million bucks!!!! So, what reward have you planned for yourself? A new outfit? A new do? A day at the spa?? Do tell! That's a BIG accomplishment and shouldn't go without celebration!!! :)

You know Joyce, I've not really planned any rewards along the way ... but some shopping is in order!! I have absolutely nothing that fits anymore  with the exception of some jean capris and knit tops I purchased a couple of weeks ago. I have a lunch date today to celebrate a friend's birthday and had to pick up something that wouldn't look like I was wearing my mother's clothes! (I used to wear a tight 22W.) I ran into WalMart and picked up a cute nautical shirt and pants --- size L 12-14!!! (The capris I got 2 weeks ago were a sz 16!) :woohoo:

Perhaps I'll get something nice for Easter as a reward, but I'd better wait until next week to get it the way things are going!! I can't wait to share your joy when you reach this milestone--it is a biggie!! Thanks for the encouragement!

I just hate my big belly and butt that keep me in size 18s and only 16s if I am wearing my Spanx! It's not fair that people who weigh the same as I do get to wear tiny clothes. That's my whine for the day. Promise! I am just jealous!!!

Biki, Biki, Biki! People carry their weight differently, you know that. I have pretty much always gained weight uniformly over my body--so at my top weight my legs and arms were as much of an embarrassment (to me) as my stomach and butt! I seem to be losing it the same way--uniformly--which is a good thing :) . But I still have a long way to go to reach a healthy weight--I have not even reached my half-way point (although I am close)! ;)

178.5 : 60 lbs. gone forever!
I facilitate a group of women on Wednesday nights--it's kind of a Bible study of sorts, except that we read and reflect on the readings that will be used for our Sunday worship at church. We did not meet last week because I was out of town and some members did not attend our Seder Meal the week before. Last night I received many NSVs from the women who had not seen me for a while. That really felt good --- but Rather than make a big deal of the NSV I minimalized it by saying, "yeah I've lost a little," only to hear, "No, you've lost a LOT!! You are looking fabulous!" :D

I believe I tried to minimalize the comment because I was conscious of two of my closer friends' reactions when compliments about my weight loss are given. Neither of them have a weight problem. One of them usually just changes the subject :x when she hears a compliment coming my way.

I wonder if the day will come that I joyfully celebrate my weight loss regardless of how it makes others feel? :? I really think that is part of my work--if I can't do that, if I am more concerned about their feelings than my personal health/achievement, how soon into maintenance will I succumb to their temptations of feasting and drinking :?: Hmmm....

Mary~ I'm sorry your friends make you feel uncomfortable about receiving compliments on your weight loss. You have succeeded in a major accomplishment. You have every right to celebrate. Own it, SISTA!!!!

I think there must be a way to be able to celebrate your successes without hurting their feelings. I noticed you said that they were 2 of your closer friends. Have you told them how you feel? If they were my close friends I would sit down with them and have a real heart-to-heart about this. I would let them know how some of their behaviors had made you feel and share your weightloss journey and desires with them. Maybe by sharing what it is you are trying to accomplish, they won't see a need to tempt you during maintenance.

Just a thought!!!

You are so right Donica ... and I must admit  I have given exactly the same advice to someone else on this board!! Why can't we be more objective when it comes to ourselves? Thank you for pointing it out to me :D

Mary - No I am not a musician or a vocalist - I just like music a lot. It's strange how people get used to us being a certain way and when we change I think they sometimes feel threatened. My husband and kids have said things about my weight loss - but none of my siblings nor their spouses or nieces and nephews have said a word about my weight loss. My mother-in-law asked my hubby about it but never said a word to me. Either some people are just too caught up in their own lives to notice or they just can't give out compliments. Several people at work have noticed and have said nice things. I guess we just have to give ourselves the pat of the back....I think that's why this forum is so important to all of us...have a great night!!!

You seem to have summed it up, Sue! I had not considered that they may feel threatened ... or perhaps just unsure of how to relate in a new/different way.

I have to leave for my massage soon but I wanted to make a post ... I celebrated some birthdays last night with friends--some of whom I hadn't seen since mid-February (20 lbs. ago ;) ). They were so vocal about my weight loss ... "Oh my gosh ... you look wonderful!", "You really lost A LOT of weight, you look great!!" It went on and on. At one point I had just taken a large gulp of water and a compliment was made ... I almost lost it! LOL

But another blessing occured. Another friend of mine who is on WW (lost 10# in 10 wks.) and has been battling the bulge for years (as I have) wanted information on MF. My 60# loss was an inspiration to her! So I sent her a link and offered to discuss the plan with her in more depth. She has had a LOT of emotional problems lately and her weight is only adding to her depression. I know she would welcome prayers ... and who knows? she may be a fellow shaker soon!!

I am often reminded that it is in our day to day living that we affect each other ... it is a double blessing when we realize it has done some good! 8)

Got to go....

Mary
