Medifast and camping

Postby PJinCali » May 1st, 2006, 7:07 pm

Hi all my helpful friends :D

I am planning a camping trip and would like advice on food prep. I will not have electricity so I need to know what to do. The trip is going to be for about 3-4 weeks and I am not going to go off plan just because I am away from electricity.

Thank you for your help and continued FABULOUS support every day on this forum

I would think it'd be pretty simple. I'd bring bars and RTDs and soups and cocoa and cocoa, since it's easy to heat water and I don't know if you'll have cold water available. Just heat some water and mix up your packet, and you're good to go. Have the RTDs or bars when hot water's not available.

Thank you Robin,

I will have to order some RTD's. I only have the shakes from my original order (this is my second week). I usually make soup in the following way. Mix water and soup cook in MW for 1 minute, stir and put in refrigerator for a few hours so the ingrediants absorb the water. I will have to experiment with a few things prior to the trip.

Looks like you have been doing GREAT! on this program. I hope I can do as well.

Thanks Again :D

I lose slowly, but I lose. :)

As for the soups, it depends what kind you have. Stuff like the chili is definitely better if it sits first. But the cream of broccoli can just be mixed with hot water (and I usually add some salsa and hot sauce, but I've gone without if it's not available). Definitely get some of the ready-to-drink shakes, though. They might be kind of a pain to carry, but they're SO convenient. And very tasty.

Oatmeal's easy, too. Just add hot water and stir - plus I find it more filling than some of the other supplements.

Have fun!!

i went camping on medifast and it worked out just fine. i did have electricity but only used it to mix my shakes (which can easily be done with the shaker jar -- but you've got RTD so you're good). I made the soups and the oatmeal on the campfire and they tasted great. my only issue was drinking all the water. i kept having to pee and the facilities weren't as close as i would like. other than that it worked out perfectly and even that wasn't really an issue. Have a great time!

I started thinking about the water & having to pee relationship today. That is going to be tough. Maybe I can drink most of my water early and late when I will still be near the campsite.

I'll work it out, should be interesting. I have a short camping trip (6 days) this month and then a 5 week trip in June & July. I should learn alot on the first to prepare for the second.

Thanks a bunch for the help :D

It shouldn't be that hard, just go behind a tree.

Nevermind. Sometimes I forget how awesome it is to be a guy.

Hey us girls can go behind a tree too...

When we go camping we take about 10 couples, and of the first things the guys do is to build us girls a "loo".... someone always brings a toilet seat, the guys dig a hole and build a little stool type thing, set the seat up on the stool, hang some sheets around it by hanging ropes from the trees, and whalah, instant outhouse... and when we have been on extended trips, they just move the outhouse to a different location...

Not much for totally roughing it, so this is the bomb, (literally) LOL

Try poopreport dot com and look for the travel mate, you will be impressed, I carry with me the small toliet paper wipes that cottonelle makes. So shake, shed and pee in comfort

Hi

Postby dede4wd » May 5th, 2006, 1:49 pm

PJ,
I know it's not camping, but I spend a lot of times at events with nothing but disgusting port-a-potties. I suffer from Home-Toilet-Advantage and will walk MILES for a flushy potty.

I therefore start drinking my water 45 minutes before I'm going to be anywhere near a REAL potty (or in your case, a REALLY shady tree). And then finish off my water when I'm stopped for the night. I haven't noticed any problems or slows in loss.

Also, if you get the cream of chicken and cream of broccoli soups, they're TOTALLY easy to make with just hot water and you don't have to worry about "soaking" the soups.

Have a BLAST!

I went backpacking and had no trouble staying on plan. I did get tired and ate a couple more bars to keep the enegy level up.
