Yes, fluctuation for me has been much greater in maintenance. I can gain and lose 5 pounds in a day. I can also tell by the feel of my rings when it's happening......don't ya love being a woman?

Oh, geez, yeah. Chinese food or a frozen meal or soup or something, and all of a sudden my ring and watch, which are usually spinning around because they're so loose, are so tight they leave a mark. It's crazy.

Then again, sometimes I'm up a pound or two for no discernable reason whatsoever. Just something in the air.

My husband brought me home a Thai dinner again last night. He is in business with the restaurant owner. I was already asleep but he told me this morning I can have it for lunch. Sorry, it is going to the dumpster. I love Thai but won't bloat for it.

I'm not giving up Asian food over a little temporary water weight. I LOVE hot and sour soup, and I've been craving it since I had it last week. It's low in calories, fat and carbs. I don't care if I fluctuate up a pound or two (or three) for a couple of days, or if my ring and watch are tight for one night.

The fact that I have no idea what is in it or how it was cooked makes me not want to eat it. Also, if I want Asian food, I would like to eat it fresh, not leftovers. Also, after two weeks in China, I still haven't had Chinese or Thai food again except some tom kha ghai my husband brought home for me a few weeks ago because he knows its my favorite Thai soup. So no, I won't eat food I really don't want AND bloat from it. Why would I???

Jer has been trying to talk me into going to the Vietnamienne resto again.. I love it and it is generally healthy and MF compliant.. except for the imperial rolls.. which if I saw someone eating them in the resto I might very well do a dive onto thier table and wrestle it from thier hands. I don't like very many things fried, but those imperial rolls get me every time.

Jer eats the spring rolls, which are the same but not cooked.. I can't even look at them, it looks like veggies and shrimp wrapped up in skin. /shudder

Oh, and for the original topic.. thanks Jo.. I appreciate your words. :)
I kept laughing though, because all I could picture was that Quaker oatmeal commercial where the people are doing thier daily activities with a scale chained to thier legs.. that lady doing step aerobics makes me laugh every time.

I never said you should. And certainly, if it's something you don't WANT, you shouldn't eat it. All I said was if it's something I enjoy, I'm not going to abstain simply because it has sodium in it and will make me bloat temporarily. Apparently I misunderstood the earlier post, which I would have sworn said you love Thai food but didn't want to eat it because it makes you bloat.

I think I'm done with this thread. It seems to keep heading off into odd, unpleasant directions and I don't understand why.

That's my favorite asian soup. Made with mushrooms, tofu, some egg and veggies. Yummy. Lots of pepper. Always wonder about the fat content though (and perhaps the carbs - corn starch?) Ours gets like a gel in the fridge.

The one at PF Chang's is about 50 calories for a cup, and I was surprisingly full afterward. Don't remember the fat content, but it was pretty low. Broth-based soups, in general, are a pretty good calorie deal (in maintenance, of course), as long as you don't add a bunch of fatty stuff later, like pork wontons.

I'm tempted to try making some at home, but I'd have to buy the mushrooms and all that (which would be a waste for just a small amount, if I decide not to make more). Maybe I should make my brother's famous "spicy pickle soup" instead. Chicken soup (I think he uses one with rice), hot sauce and chopped-up pickles. I've never been brave enough to try it. Ha.

OF COURSE! That's ho is disprove the theory that the sum of two halves is a whole. If i weigh both sides separately and add them together it's ALWAYS less than when i weigh BOTH at the same time! :roflmao:

I have to remember that one! :roflmao: :roflmao:

I absolutely agree! I really love Tai and Vietnamese food and suffer with the added water weight. It's only temporary. :|
