Lox/ Cold Salmon Platter

Postby GucciGoo » May 30th, 2006, 11:08 am

Can you tell I am from New York?

Does anybody else like lox? Usually I will have it on a big bagel slathered with cream cheese as well :) But in staying with the Medifast tradition...

Can I have a cold lox platter with cooked veggies for dinner? Do I just measure a 7- ounce portion?

I would assume so....7oz. of lox is quite a bit just from a volume standpoint. You may find that you won't eat that much. Are you also going with the capers and onions as well? Give me a combination of those three with or with out the bagel and I am a pretty happy soul.

I love love love LOX!!

I would definately read the package, though, because there may be alot of salt in the processing which could inhibit weight loss.

I would be inclined to have a few ounces of lox with a hard boiled egg or some cottage cheese for my lean. 7 oz. would be way too much of a good thing for me.

I love it! But yeah, 7 ounces is a lot. And I can't imagine how much sodium that would be. I'd blow up like a Thanksgiving parade float!!

I'd have it as only part of my lean, too, and have something else with it. Egg, or maybe some low-fat cheese (ooh, lox wrapped up in some low-fat or fat-free Swiss cheese?

I guess I'm in the minority, because I have never even heard of "lox".

Ascicles-It's mainly a New York Jewish thing. You put the lox (really expensive cold salmon) on a bagel with lotsa cream cheese and some onions. YUM.

I have never tried cheese or eggs as my lean! Maybe I will do 4 oz of lox plus some LF cheese. *searches for an egg that has not expired*

Smoked salmon. I like it on a garlic bagel with cream cheese, red onion, tomato, capers and a little Swiss cheese.

I ended up having 4 oz of lox, and cooked asparagus with 3 oz FF mozzarella cheese. (I hope that is on plan!!!)

Ok now I want lox too. I never thought about having it till now and being from New York (originally the Bronx) and Jewish, I was raised on lox. I think the bagels are what made me obese to begin with. But I was thinking what about having lox, onion and eggs, yummy.
I might try that as an L&G but I will make sure it's Nova lox and not belly. I think the belly lox might be too salty.

Jeez now I want whitefish too. You created a monster!!! lol

Ha. It's funny. I'm Jewish, too, and originally from New York. And bagels absolutely are what made me gain weight after I lost it all on Atkins originally. After keeping it off three years, I listened to all those low-fat folks who said bagels were good for you. I still remember the day - the MEAL - when I decided to listen to them. It was when I was breaking the fast after Yom Kippur. I decided to get bagels and lox, and that was it. I started eating bagels and lox and fat-free cream cheese regularly. And gaining back the weight, plus 25 more pounds just for good measure.

But when I'm in maintenance, I'm SO having it again. Rarely, but I'm having it. Maybe just every year to break the fast.
