Is low fat sausages allowed on the program??

Postby dbedrosi » January 17th, 2008, 5:29 pm

Hi, I had a quick lean & green question. Is it ok to have lowfat sausages? It's the playoffs and we're having friends over for bbq'd sauges. I told my husband I'd have to check to see if I'm allowed this. Does anyone know? Thanks much, Denise

The main issue with sausage is typically the fat and the sodium content, mainly the fat.
I have found one brand (Amy's - at Costco) that is 5g of fat in one sausage, and thats fairly lean for the lean category. Most sausages are 12 to 22g of fat per sausage.
So I would say that something akin to Amys Chicken sausages would be okay. Just make sure you don't have more than 5 oz. in the lean category.
