losin 50...

Postby Guest » December 15th, 2003, 2:05 am

Hey I'm a 23yo male, married with 2 kids, and 50 or so lbs over weight (feels like 50 tons  ).

My Pastor did Medifast and kicked 40 some pounds off in no time, and kept it off. Our church sound guy dropped 100.

I just tried starting Atkins last week and got the Flu on the third day. While I believe in Dr. Atkins research, I am not a cook. It's hard to find time to prepare those low carb delicasies 3 times a day anyway. I am shooting for the 6 shake a day plan from Medifast...

Need some advise:

1.) What's the rules on excersizing? I would like to start going with my very active wife daily, but dont know if it's safe

2.) I want to use the shakes that curb your apetite. Any thoughts? I dont see why everyone wouldnt use them if they actually work

3.) Can I use Lipolosis Testing Strips? I imagine if I can't metabolize fat, these strips should be a gauge as to wether the diet is working. I know some people posted on this board saying why waste your time. I just think it's cool to see the ketone color, that's all....

Welcome, smpclient!

I am not a health advsior, but I am starting my sixth week on the program, so I know a few things from experience.

1. Exercise: It is recommended that you give your body 3-4 weeks to adjust to the fast before exercising. After that, you can gradually get into it! I am starting exercise this week--going to Curves 3 times a week.

2. I have not used the appetite supressant shakes, so I cannot give you an opinion on it.

3. If seeing that little test strip get purple will motivate you--go for it! Just know that it may not be as deep a purple as you may get with the Atkins plan. Medifast puts you in a constant mild state of ketosis, while with Atkins, you can go in and out of it.

The program works if you work the program. And with you being a man, it will work extremely fast! That 50 could be history very quickly.

Keep reading here--I think you'll find the answers you need. IF not, ask!

SMP Client, (what ever your name is)

Welcome, nice to have another guy on the board. Don't get me wrong, I am a "woman" guy, and love being the guy here, but a little support from another guy might really help everyone!!

Answers to your questions (IMHO)...

1. When (if) you get your first Medifast shipment (order a month worth to save on shipping - free) you will get a brochure/booklet that will tell you about excercize. It tells you to avoid excercize (as I have done my entire life) for the first 3-4 weeks (I believe it's that long) to acclimate your body to the new "program" (we are not allowed to use the "D" word here - DIEt - first 3 letters of the "D" word are DIE) After that period lapses and you are in "ketosis" and used to the program, you begin with light excercize. I am looking for a slap here, but I RARELY excercize - I know I would have lost faster if I incorporated the "E" word into my regimine, but I am way too lazy. I excercize ocassionally, nothing worth working up a sweat over.

2. Shakes curb appetite? Define curb... If your 50# O/W you know eating as I did. I am/was a pounder, and I dont mean a 1/4 ponder. Once your in that mild state of Ketosis, and your used to Medifast, you see the loss, you loose the drive to want food (can't believe I can still say that). The loss alone is an "appetite suppresant". I never thought I would see the day, where I was not hungry. We are overweight, and have been obviously overweight for a long time, so its a life style change. I still (98 days today) get cravings, like the commercials on TV, or when Mama is cooking dinner for the kids... These cravings only last for seconds, and they are only on ocassion. When you see, and feel the loss, and realize the program really works, and the fact that this is the last "DIEt" you will ever be on, you realize your only cheating yourself if you eat. The hunger subsides as your body begins and continues to burn its own sugar and fat. Basically 99% of the time, I am not hungry - and this is not a lie.

3. Ketosis test strips - your call. Nancy (the board owner) will chastize you in a good way, if you buy these. Medifast creates Ketosis, and you do not need these if your honest on the program. I did the Atkins thing, and did buy a bottle of the "Ketostix" test strips long ago. I STILL ocassionally test myself, and yes, I am in that mild state of Ketosis. I also enjoy seeing the color change - 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

Last but not least, as I have stated (read the numerous posts) Medifast works. Your Pastor did the correct thing. I have been on 9,000 diets (kidding of course - maybe I am not) and have yo-yo-ed up and down 1000 pounds. This weight loss program works, and its the last DIEt I will ever be on.

Stats: I am a 42 year old large male. Began 9/8/03. 98 days ago today at 337 pounds. Today (or 3-4 days ago) I was at 249. This is 88 pounds gone, (average of .90 pounds a day) and I feel wonderful. I have somewhere around 20# to go. I feel the best I have EVER felt in my life, that I can remember If I can do it, anyone can.

Once a fast food - all food abuser, never again....

Thanks for the info, and congrats on your success.

Bummer to hear about the excersize. I hoped to start going today. Would activities like playing basketball be allowed?

Your call.. I fugured, why spend the extra $ on the appetite ones, when I "thought" I was going to be starving anyway.. (I was wrong) I am on the Medifast 70 plan. I can be (probably will be) reprimanded for this comment: Almost from day 4 or 5, I have done 4 shakes... Right? Wrong? Probably wrong, but my 7-10-2-6 shakes are all that I can drink. I loathe the thought of having that 5th shake. Please don't use me as the deciding factor in your loss, the program was designed for 5-6 shakes per day, but I just could not, after about the 4-5-6th day. My 10 cents.

As for making you loose slower if on the Appetite ones? No, you will loose the same speed.
