Jeez, I am going to be indebted to Smarti forever and ever. First she got me on this program, then the losing started, then she talked me into being a HA. But I must say the best of all things so far (besides my weight loss) was reading your journal. You definitely should write a book. Not only are you entertaining, but you are truly an inspiration and sooooo articulate.

I just got my sister to start the program last week, and her first response was "I'm too old, and I'm happy with myself now". Happy with not being able to walk or enjoy life? She is 65, and like you has a loving, wonderful husband of 45 years, beautiful children and grandchildren and everything to live for. She lives in Florida and I am leaving in the a.m. to visit with her and my daughter and grandchildren who live in Florida too. The minute I get to her house, I am going to insist that she read your journal.

At this point she is doing great and I am sure seeing me 60 lbs. less will be an inspiration, but your story is even more inspiring!!!!!

You are truly an inspiration to all. Oh please publish it for the world to read. Send it to Oprah book club or do something. :D

God Bless you!!!!!

RED,

I know you have paid me the greatest compliment I believe I have ever received! You are too, too kind!
Your 60 pound loss is phenomenal. Congratulations!
Please give my regards to your sister, and tell her I'll be rooting for her success on Medifast.
With your help and encouragement, there's no doubt about it!

Looking for lots of company this weekend and for about the next 10 days.
I'm hoping to get in some 'blogging' after bedtime each evening.
But if memory serves me, we play games way up into the night.
FUN!

Thank you again, RED!

JULY 25, 2006

I continue to be completely astounded at the changes that have taken place in me.
I can’t at times believe it!
Then when I analyze how I look and feel since losing well over 50 pounds on Medifast I can accept it as an exhilarating feat!

So now, I am perilously near the place of beginning the transition into that phase of maintaining the weight I have lost.
And appreciating the precious time and energy that it took to lose it. It is no small accomplishment.
If I could just comprehend it all!

I’m thinking a lot recently about transition and change.

“Transition is the place we go through when we are coming out of something and heading into something else…”
That's what Joyce Meyer, a favorite inspirational speaker and writer in a recent magazine, said.

That is simple enough to understand for us who are beginning that journey from transition to maintenance.
No big earthshaking change, but so subtly we go through it,
And continue on past an invisible point where one then becomes the other.

I can hardly fathom how I have changed in body, mind and spirit.
In the same magazine, an article by Phil Cooke, wrote, “It’s Time to Change Your Life”
It could have been borrowed from the Medifast playbook.
And it forcefully confirms the Medifast principles.
Aren’t we glad?

Paraphrasing, he said an important key to help make real change happen in our life is
to let go of our past.
So that even when we fall, what matters most is how many times we get back up!

He said we should know our destination.
If you don’t know where you’re going, he said, you’d never know when you get there!
So before we start our journey to lose our weight and regain our health,
we have to know specifically what our goals are.

Importantly, he says, we should take control of our priorities,
and eliminate destructive distractions.
I think we can all relate to that in our battle to lose weight.

We need to find personal cheerleaders, Cooke says.
Hey, we’ve got the best right here on our Forum.
What a dreadful game it would be without cheerleaders on the sidelines.
Could we even win a game without it? It would be hard.

And then finally we begin to appreciate the mystery of life.
By following the simple keys, we can enjoy the journey and everyday life!
My sense is that I can change to live my life to the fullest.
And be what I was really meant to be!
We can still make up for lost time, can’t we?

I believe it is about to sink in!
And all of you are part of the equation.

Beautiful and insightful post, Lizabette! I can see that you're doing the mental/spiritual work that is so necessary....I have confidence that you will be well-prepared as you move into transition and maintenance. I will be watching and learning from you as you go before me.

Yes, JOY, my sweet friend!
Have no fear.
When the time comes you will be prepared to do whatever it takes to maintain...
and to hold on to the vast beneficial gains you have made on Medifast.
We have worked too hard to let it slip away!

Today has been a good day.
On water aerobics days (M-W-F) it does take up a good half day!
But it does feel so good to jump into a swim suit and not want to hide behind something.
And I realize how important it is to take time for myself to become healthy and fit by whatever means is available.
I simply don't want to lose that feeling!

My food today has been:
Oatmeal for breakfast
Vanilla Root Beer Shake by the pool
Minestone soup, with 1 extra cup of water (seasoned with boullion, celery, salsa, spices). And MF crackers. Yum.
Bar (always for afternoon snack)
L & G - Roast Chicken, green beans, salad.
Later tonight- I'll surprise myself with something good)

This morning I was only 2 ounces away from my mini-goal of 140# (55 pounds)!
My weight tracker doesn't do ounces, so really I am much closer to 140# than to 141#.
Guess I'll just wait, bad as I hate to leave it there!

Then of course the next Big Goal is 135#, and then begins the transistion and maintenance process.
I really appreciate that Medifast cares enough about our maintenance that it provides the tools and materials for that.

Here's to a wonderful day to you all.

THANK YOU, SMARTI!

I'm watching your numbers like a hawk!
So proud of you, too!

For the Root Beer float, start out with chilled vanilla shake and 1/2 can s/f root beer. (I like the Mug RB).
Mix together CAREFULLY..no shaking!
HB sometimes mixes his milk with RB in a quart mug, and he doesn't pretend to be on a diet!

Keep frosty until ready to enjoy.

AUG. 2, 2006

Silver Fox is sooooooo sorry that she hasn’t posted in her journal for several days.
Sometimes I think we get too busy to do some really important things.
It is late here now, after 11 p.m. but I just must post some in my journal.

We do have company right now and expecting more this week.
The exciting part?
These are High School Chums from 60+ years ago.
We all attended a small faith Bible School and have stayed in touch all these years.
They are full time Rvers , do a lot of traveling over the US, and come to visit us usually once a year.
When they visit they have their own home with them, and so we come and go as we please.
At one time we took a month trip together in our RV’s up into the Great Lakes area,
All through provinces of Canada, and visited Prince Edward Island, and many many other sites and places.

Oh, they were so delighted at my wonderful weight loss,
especially since they are very health conscious and stay at a nice healthy weight, themselves.
Some nice NSV’s there. And I feel so much better than in the past visits
when I huffed and puffed around when we would go walking, sight seeing, etc.

Five or 6 couples from our Bible School days are all still together after all these years---50 to 60 years!!
We are all in relatively good health and love getting together when possible for trips, games, etc.

A most special event is coming up.
One of the couples I mentioned, married on the same day that we did, October 6, 1946, in different parts of the country,
and neither of us was aware of it until much later.
So now we plan to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary together next month.
We will travel to Branson, MO and take in many of the shows,
and do many other fun things.
How exciting is that?

This reminds me that it is a precious thing to stay in touch with special friends through the years.
Some day it will mean more to us than we can ever imagine.
Nobody has more enjoyment and happiness than those who share so much in common, and have lived life the fullest they know how.

Well, on to my weight loss phase.
I think for the first time I am at a real PLATEAU!
Just hovering around 140, and can’t seem to drop into the 130’s.
I have read numerous times where that when a large amount of weight is lost (YAY!)
that the body experiences a plateau where it slows down to take stock of the situation,
and does not release the weight as it had previously.
But not to become discouraged, because there are other indicators such as clothes that show that the weight is actually coming off,
even if the SCALE does not show it!
And measurements also tell the tale!
And of course I have found that is true.
For sure, I know that I will not be stuck at 140# FOREVER!

I am aware, however, that I seem to be languishing while my sojourner friends are speeding on to goal!
But they are all so kind and supportive and I know that eventually I will catch up to them.

Speaking of NSV’s. I am being called Lizabitty, Itsy, Tiny, Foxy, and now, my own daughter today said I was ‘miniature’.
Wowie, Zowie,
No way can I go back to the way it was with polite but subtle hints about how much better I would look if I would just lose a little weight!

ONLY FIVE MORE POUNDS TO GOAL!
I know I will get there!
With your help and encouragement I WILL!

Hi! Just a quick hello to tell you what a great example you are. I'm brand new to the forum and just started MF today. I really enjoy reading your journal. Great stuff. Thanks. Congratulations on your success! I know you'll figure out how to get that last 5 lbs off.

WELCOME ELIZABETH!

Thank you kindly for your nice words.
And especially since you are just starting MF.
Oh, I hope you did well on your first day and will keep right on to your goal.
I will look forward to seeing your progress.
And pictures, too!

Well, just to let you know I cracked open the 130's this morning!
Just barely!
My mind was trying to convince me that it might not happen.
But of course my heart knew that it would!
So now to stay the course and move on to lose those last few difficult pounds.

I know the same will happen for you,
and all of us are here to support you.

JULY 7, 2006

Just had to report that I am now SOLIDLY in the 130's !
138.9 on the scale this a.m. And 4 pounds to GOAL!
Too bad my ticker doesn't do ounces.
I have hovered in the low 140# forever it seems, but have never wanted to give up in dispair!

I have had loads of company, plenty of NSV's, and not much time to journal.
But not to worry, my heart is with you!
I'll do my best to journal more today, but you'll understand, I know!

Getting ready to leave for the Y where I do mostly water aerobics.
I've even missed a day or two of that, but company doesn't mind!

Great results on Sunday Roll Call. Congratulations, all!
You are the greatest!
