Lizabette, I am not bored by your daily weight loss posts, but can understand if you are wishing to move to once weekly posting about it. I find your posts always interesting (28 days incubation for the duck eggs, I believe) and inspirational.

Ultimately it is up to you...but I know others enjoy your posts and sharing also.

It is funny that you are mentioning this as I've been mulling over the idea of posting less and becoming more active away from the computer. Must be something in the air.........? Springtime?

Lizabette - I like the fact that you post your weight each day. It tells me the flucuations you have on maintance and just gets me thinking about maintance if you know what I mean.

You are going to be a Duckmamma...LOL!! I am just kidding. I hope you will be able to party soon.

Lizabette~ What a beautiful place you have!!! I'm jealous. I grew up on a lake in Illinois. I loved living on a lake. We would go out boating almost every night. I was really into water skiing and was even part of a ski team that performed in shows. Wow, that was a long time ago. Seeing the lake at your house, reminded me of how much I enjoyed my childhood and that lake.

And......that duck is absolutely precious. I also think it's sweet that your DH didn't want to bother them.

As far as posting your weight goes......I'm certainly not bothered by it. I agree with SuzyQ that it helps me see what to expect on maintenance.

So have I. I really need to get a life away from kvetching all day.

Thanks everyone! I hope you all liked my ducky little pictures.
It's okay to call me Duckmamma, SUE. I think it'd cute!
MISS T, Thanks for the duck information. 28 days incubation is a long time. We really don't know how long the hatching has been going on.
You know, the eggs are the size of regular chicken eggs.
Now, I don't want you or BIKI to give up kvetching alot, when it seems to help to stay compliant.
And it does help others to see how well you are doing.
On maintenance, it may be a little different...
Anyway, I will remain a presence, if I think that I can help someone along the journey to goal.
I received so much help from others, it is the least I can do.
BTW, DONI, I thought it was awfully sweet that DH didn't want to bother the duck and the eggs, and he is wanting to get back out on the lake again.
We'll keep a watch on them...I just hope nothing happens to harm them.
Quite occasionally, we'll see a mama duck and lots of little ducklings following after her.
Sweet!

Thanks for sharing your duck family pics, Lizabette! It reminded me of the pontoon boat my (late) husband and I had. I used to feed the ducks at the dock all the time! Wonderful memories ... :D

BTW, I enjoy your posts and would never bore of them!

Dear Itsy ~

Your Mama duck has a beautiful duckternity ward there - she is so precious and hey, Silver Fox, instead of being Duckmamma, that might make you a Gramling (Grammy of ducklings).

When I was teaching first/second grade, I used to have quite a zoo in my classroom. In addition to MacGregor and Daisy the lop-eared wabbits, Scooter (a cockatiel), Bonaparte & Josephine (the land turtles), an aquarium with tropical fish, I had a setting hen named Brownie that visited each spring so the children could experience watching the eggs hatch.

After several years of having Brownie the Hen spend 5 weeks with us, Farmer Esser thought she was past her prime and getting a bit cranky so I got an incubator.

One year a student’s father came in to the classroom with three duck eggs – somehow, an animal had killed the mom and he wrapped the eggs up in his sweatshirt and brought them to my class because his son had told him we were incubating eggs. We were not sure if they were viable but we put them in the incubator along with the hen eggs. Several days after the chicks hatched, one of the eggs hatched. (The other two did not hatch) It began to hatch toward the end of the school day. During recess breaks and after school, I always put the chicks out in the grass so they could scratch and look for bugs, etc, and run about. Well, the duckling emerged; it thought I was its Mama and it imprinted on me. That cwazy duckling followed me around all the time! It was a novelty for a few days but a real pain on the weekend when I took the chicks and duckling home. On Monday, it went home with another student that had ducks and pheasants…

Itsy, look out…those ducklings may imprint on you and follow you and Bill on your jaunts along the river with Meg!

NANCY, it's okay to call me Gramling (Grammy of ducklings) Our duck-ternity ward seems to be doing the trick for mama duck.
We really thought for a while that she was leaving the eggs for good, but she showed back up and is now setting on them again.
She seems to be doing fine. She left the eggs yesterday for a while doing whatever ducks do, but she was back again today.
I took another picture today in a little different spot on the seat. You'll notice some dog food on the seat, where DH put it while she was gone,
He thought she might need something to eat. Isn't she cute?
Hmmmm, don't know when we'll get to use the boat again...
Not sure about the imprinting, though. Meg wouldn't appreciate the competition!

Thanks MARY. You are doing so good. I love hearing from you.
I was sorry to hear you had lost your husband.
You still have some wonderful memories with him.
I wish you happiness, dear girl.

How cute is that.!!!

When we lived back in Michigan we had a duck who nested next to our above ground pool. She had eggs, but they never hatched. It was very funny as she came back for at least three years. It got to the point that our sons started to watch for her in the spring.

Do you know how many eggs there are? When we lived on the lake I remember mamas that sometimes had 10.

To bad Jo is on vacation. She could be making Ducky Booties for the new arrivals. :roflmao:

As for you posting your weight. I try to read every post. I look forward to yours because I want to be just like you. It's your journal and I say post away.

WOW, PINKY. What a nice NSV from you! Thank you loads! You are getting so close to goal...won't be long now!
I read everything I could get my hands on about maintenance, and tried to get a good handle on it. And I still do, after almost 8 months maintaining.
It just takes 'doing it'...but sure is easier if you prepare all you can ahead of time!
I will post my weight tomorrow at Roll Call, but a heads up is I am staying almost the same for several days now.
Even so, my sizes are getting smaller...6-8-10.
It takes a little pressure off to not post weight every day.

Day 3 for MADAME SQUATTER taking up homesteading on our boat. We think there are about 6-7 eggs, but several have ended up on the boat floor.
We don't want to touch them for fear it will harm the hatching program.
We are not well versed on duck protocol. Maybe somebody out there knows what we should do.

APRIL 23, 2007 - 129.2#
Thought I'd go ahead and post my weight this Monday morning. Down from yesterday, almost a pound!
I really don't understand what happens during maintenance, but it is definitely different from the weight loss phase.
And Sunday is my special treat day, too! Just don't understand

Well, today is Day 5 for my little squatter duck, who has taken up residence on our one and only boat,
which should be cruising on the beautiful lake in this wonderful weather! (see picture taken yesterday)
She was still busy hatching this morning...(see the egg?)...we wonder if she knows she is holding us captive!

We did the Y stuff this morning. This evening there is a special deal on the Strong Women program at the Home Ec Building at the fairground.
It has to do with weight training and resistance training. I have done almost none of that, so a friend and I will see what it's all about.
I have started the process of working on the Medifast Testimonial Competition...getting pictures ready and filling out forms.
I really have no illusions that I will win anything, but you know, nothing ventured...
If so, I may be the 'oldest' woman known to man to have done this deed.
DH saw a magazine picture of a shapely young thing in a swim suit, and he said "Hey, just add your face to this one and send it in!" Yeah, right!
I will have to say, I obtained a fashionable swim suit that I wore to water aerobics this morning. Got some NSV's, too!
Ain't life the berries?

Lizabette - 8 months on maintence - you are doing so wonderful. I too like Mary - wish to be like you. That's why I love reading your journal. It's so nice that you and Jo are doing so wonderful and that it's something the rest of us can attain - of course - in time.

It's nice to know that you also have a special treat day. I have been contemplating that. Do you just allow yourself one treat that day? Or just give ourself a 'day off' within reason? Inquiring minds need to know...LOL!!

Glad to hear that your duck is doing well. Congrats on your ongoing success.

Well, thank you so much, SUZY and PINKY. I feel honored by your compliments.
About the treat day, SUZY, my MO right now is to have a favorite treat on Sunday afternoon at home---the fabulous frozen Marie Calendar Lemon Merengue pie.
We almost always eat out on Sunday after church. If possible, I have baked salmon or fish, because I like it so much (and I don't usually fix fish at home.)
Salad, vegetables and fruit, if it's a buffet. So everything in moderation.
On other days, I eat a regular type maintenance plan, 2 L & G's, dairy, grains, fruit in moderation...foods that I really like.
I have a stash of M/F foods for a snack or emergency when going somewhere, like hot cocoa or a bar.
This all works for me, although other maintainers use different methods.
It surely is an individual thing. A 'day off' within reason works for some...
I don't usually count calories, but I eat healthy, and I read labels as to fat and sugar content.
I estimate that I have between 1300 - 1500 calories each day.
And I do some exercise 6-7 days a week, also in moderation.
We hear so much about how hard it is to maintain, and that almost everybody goes right back to regaining their weight.
But guys, it doesn't have to be that way!
It takes the same kind of commitment and determination to maintain as it does to lose the weight in the first place.
So we have to accept that, or why bother?
It is worth it, I'm here to tell you...

Thank you Lizabette for continuing to share your MF journey with us. The success you and the other MF maintainers, that have stayed to share their continuing MF experience, are helping many of us far more than you may realize.

May you have a beautiful day, even if Momma Duck is keeping you from boating. :)
