APRIL 4, 2007 - 130.6#
Thanks BIKI, JO and DONI for checking in on my journal. That ounce lost feels good because it means I didn't gain one.
Well, I am a little over half way reading my own journal.
It is no wonder that I have done as well as I have on my weight loss/maintenance journey after reading all the encouraging, inspiring posts from so many of you.
I had to do well out of self-defense!

Reading a post recently from one medifaster who dreads and fears maintenance because she would have to always, always watch what she puts in her mouth...
and never feel free just to eat what she wants. In essense, wondering what kind of life will that be?
I can understand that. I'm sure I have felt that way, too, at one time or another.
But not now!
Now it is not dreadful to me to decide to eat healthfully while maintaining.
I actually can eat what I want, and do, but in moderation.
That gives me a certain sense of control over my life, and that is a good feeling.
True, certain trigger foods I mostly avoid, but because I want to.
Fact is, I have lost the craving for former trigger foods and I don't wish the cravings to return.
So, best to get on with losing weight and getting healthy and forget how it might be once goal is reached.
Maintenance will take care of itself when the time comes.
There is a power in that accomplishment!

Lizabette,
Thanks so much for the last post. I am scared about maintenance. When ever I get to a certain weight. I say okay I can eat what I want. But in reality I know I can not. The one important thing is for me to come on this board everyday. I love that you and Jo write your weight down everyday. It put things in check. Thanks again.

APRIL 5, 2007 - 129.2#

Whoohoo! I'll bet you can guess why I am posting earlier today.
Look at that number...129.2# (Not saying how long it will hold!)
We all know how fickle the scale can be  but ain't it suh-weet!
But that little number this morning represents my 'ROBIN tune-up'!
Note of caution: Every engine needs to be 'tuned-up' on a regular basis.
OH, SHUCKINS! WHATEVER!

KATIE, you are the one who is sweet. Thank you.
You know (well, you don't really know) but sometimes I think that what I say may seem to scold or sounds like I know it all!
Mercy, NO!
I really know nothing except from my own experiences or point of view (and even that has the benefit of hindsight!)
Others here can add much more insight that I ever could!
But I so want each one to achieve her/his desired goal, and I know it is a definite possibility.
Sweet, sweet you are!

TAWANDA, I might not post so often if it weren't for you telling me that it helps you and others for me to check in often.
I talk mostly now about maintenance, because that is where I am at this point.
And also that losing weight and getting healthy is a matter of deciding that it is the most important priorty right now!.
After that decision, the going is a lot, lot easier!
There I go again...
Luv ya!

Lizabette - thanks for saying what you did about maintenance. I just pictured you and Lauren and Jo all backed in a corner being held at bay by a loaf of bread, trembling. I understand now that you eat the way you do as a conscious CHOICE. That's what I hope for - to stop the unconscious shoveling and thinking that grease and fat are what I want, and to choose healthy foods. But I have also stopped thinking seriously about maintenance at the moment. I've got my hands full trying to lose so I'm not going to let myself get crazy about what the future may or may not bring. Thank you for the advice!

NICKIE,
You are so welcome.
Wouldn't that be a hilarious sight to see us silly maintainers scared to death of a loaf of bread!
I'd have to get out Silver Fox's skinny stick to ward it off! :whip:
You have the right idea...let the future take care of itself and take care of yourself right now.
It's a trite statement but it's true...you're worth it!

I have a little different spin on this. I thought about maintenance every day I was on the plan because I didn't want to fail at it like I did last time. I wanted this to be my last venture into the weight loss game. I planned, read, read, and planned more. Last time I didn't give it a thought. I remember thinking "I just want to get the weight off, then I'll worry about maintenance".....ummmmm that didn't work, folks. I was not prepared.

So, maybe just use half your brain to give some thought to how you will manage maintenance because it is way important!

Half my brain? I'll try. :D I do sort of have a plan, but it's not hugely detailed - I've been too caught up in worrying, and staying in the 'I want what I can't have' frame of mind. So I'll just look to the horizon for now and maybe pick up with half my brain when I break 200. And then put my whole brain to work on the issue when I start transitioning.

You are so right, JO. You gotta be prepared!
And that brings up a nuther whole subject.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Seems I left the idea in my post that I didn't think about maintenance while losing weight.
I certainly did, as my journal will attest.
But it wasn't the worrying kind of thinking that would block me from being successful.
I read and learned everything about it I could, even quoted some of it in my journal.
I still do that, after maintaining for over 7 months.
In a word, I prepared!
But the thinking and the learning empowered me, and kept me from worrying and being afraid about what would happen when I finally, finally got to goal.
Doing that homework actually strengthed my resolve to go ahead and reach goal.
It excited me,in fact. to take those last slow steps over the goal line.

If anybody should know how to do it, JO, you do!
I feel that many may not have made it this far, if not for you...you were always there for us.

Hey JO, I just looked at your beginning date, November 20, 2005. That is just 2 months before I joined MMT in January, 2006!
And lookee see how much more you lost and how much faster.
Gotta say, you're the expert around here and we all pay homage to you,
Best of all, you are still here egging us on!
And not to mention, bringing up NEW subjects to tax half our brains, like being prepared!
SHEESH!
