Leg Cramps?!?

Postby lifelovinaries » April 26th, 2006, 8:54 pm

Has anyone else experienced leg cramps?:whattha: This is week 3 for me and they just started today. I drink PLENTY of water (upwards of 100 oz) daily. The cramps aren't very bad at this point, just quick cramps that come and go but I don't want them to get any worse either. Any suggestions will be a great help.

Hi

I only had them the first week...

Did you try a fast soup or some boullion (sp?). for me a little potassium helped!

Hope it gets better for you!

Check out the "question on chewable calcium" thread. We were just chatting about it.

This is going to sound like an odd suggestion but try having red meat for your L&G. My husband's doctor told him that there is something in red meat that will help leg cramps---maybe it's magnesium, I don't know. But we both noticed if we had not eaten red meat for a while we would get leg cramps. A steak always seems to help both of us. I know it seems odd--just give it a try.

Thanks Mustang, however, I don't eat red meat or pork so that's not an option. Luckily the cramps only lasted for that one day. I have since then started adding a bouillion cube to my soups/chili. Hopefully, that will keep my potassium level up since it is probably being washed out with all my water consumption.

Hi there! I sometimes get leg cramps in the am when I wake up. Dr. told me I need needed to add more magnesium, so I take a supplement. No more leg cramps :).

I take a magnesium supplement, as well, after my MD recommended it.

I get a cramp in the center of my chest below my breasts when I hunch over. I wonder if it's related. Similar to leg cramps it will go away if I force the muscle to stretch out. I can even see it cramping if I pull up my shirt and look! It's really weird. I guess I need to stop hunching over to do stuff.

Very easily could be an electrolyte imbalance. Talk with your MD about it.

I told the doctor about it and she suggested drinking an electrolyte drink. Propel has 10 calories, but SmartWater has none. So I think I might pick up some SmartWater and see if it helps. I also may wean down on the water intake because SmartWater is pricey. :/

I LOVE smartwater! But Jeez, it's more expensive than almost anyting else! What's that stuff made of? GOLD? I treat myself if I'm in GNC, but other than that, I'm too much of a tightwad!

I've never even heard of SmartWater so I just looked it up. Geez, this stuff is hi-tech. Anybody here drink this on a regular basis? If so, how much is it?

I just found out yesterday that SmartWater was bought by 7-Up, and I can't get it at my local store. :/ I ended up buying these packets of powder from alacercorp called ElectroMix. They are sugar and calorie free and give the water a faint lemon lime taste. It'll do. I'm also starting to take my vitamin/mineral supplement again with my lean and green meal. I had stopped taking it because if I don't take it with food I'll get really sick to my stomach, but it seemed to work out ok last night.

It's too bad about the SmartWater because it tastes really good, but it is expensive.

You can buy a case of Smartwater at Costco at a more reasonable price than at the grocery store.I'm in Az but I would think all Costco's would carry it. I cant remember how much off the top of my head, but I'll let you guys know, I'm actually going there today.
