Lean & Green at the Zoo?

Postby Nicki » May 2nd, 2006, 6:58 pm

OK pals ... I'm stumped. I have a teacher friend on the program who is trying to figure out what to take for her lean and green during a day at the zoo with her class. It will be in a cooler until they get there, but she will have to carry it in a fanny pack for a couple of hours because backpacks aren't allowed inside. There has been quite a bit of discussion on traveling on program lately, but I can't seem to find something that would work. Any brilliant ideas? Thanks!

How about pouches of Tuna or Salmon and green pepper strips or something along those lines?
Or, she could bring along a couple of drink packets that can be mixed with bottled water if that's easier.

Hi Nicki,

If it was me, I'd probably just have an RTD and skip the l & g or have it another time. I've done that several times when a l & g just wasn't convenient.

I'm with Jo. I'd either save my lean and green for later or just skip it that day, and have a bar or an RTD or something.

Chicken cut into strips in one baggie. Then in another baggie an assortment of cucumber sticks, green pepper strips, grape size tomatoes. Carry a packet of MF salad dressing to dip it all in. Easy to carry in a fanny pack, easy to eat since it is all finger food...and loaded with energy for a busy day at the zoo. I'd toss in a bag of MF crackers too for on the road munchies. I'd go for this over RTD since it is more filling and energy rich for such a busy day.

The other option is to spce her bar so she munches that at the zoo.

Thanks so much guys! I was personally more inclined to go the route of Jo & Robin, but now I have some options to help her out ... Yay! VERY clever suggestions Shana and SPMustang .... I was wracking my brain and I really appreciate your great ideas!

What's the temperature where she lives? Personally, I wouldn't eat chicken that I'd been carrying around unrefrigerated for several hours.

I went to the zoo with my family and didn't have a hard time. There were plenty of places to buy water, they had one place where they had grilled chicken salad and I took a couple bars with me too. I only used one bar as planned, but I had the 2nd there just in case. :)

I'd just look for a place that has salads and get a grilled chicken salad as well. Maybe bring along some low fat dressing just in case but I'm sure the restaurants will have that option. Walking around the zoo can make you very hungry!
