Lean & Green

Postby CGal67 » December 3rd, 2007, 1:07 pm

Yesterday I input my Lean and Green meal into Support In Motion and entered in 6.2 ounces of protein for my chicken because that is what the scale said. Well, SIM counted that as HIGH OP for the lean which seems a little strange. So just to be naughyt I changed it to 6.1 to see what it said and it still read HIGH. :| *of course I entered in the correct amount for the day though*

I guess I'm not trying to sound dumb, but it would seem like HIGH would be defined as 7, 7.5, or 8 ounces of chicken and not .1 or up to .5 over. I guess I'm glad I have my scale, there is no telling how far off I'd be without it.

This intrigued me so I did a little looking at the QSG. When you look at the latest version (old versions has 7 oz of chicken standard), the 3 columns for the lean, leaner, and leanest are also different for the number of ounces. For leanest its 7 oz, for leaner its 6 oz, for lean its 5 oz. Chicken is in the leaner category which only allows for 6 oz now.
Those of us that follow the lean and green for the old QSG might want to re-evaluate how we measure our lean.

Interesting...

I forgot about that chart (which is posted on the side of my fridge) I'm scared to go "leanest" since my calories have barely been over 800...but that would come in handy if I'd like a little more meat.

I'm usually right on, but twice it I entered just over 6 ounces and it gave me a high reading on SIM.

Thanks for your input Mike!

Yes, computers are very specific. If its not 6.0, but 6.1 or more it will read it as high.

I lost 146 pounds the old way, Mike. I'm not about to change anything that works already. When I go back on program in January for a bit, it will be the old school cuz I'm too lazy to learn the new way, hehe.

I'm with you Jo. I follow the old guide as well. Just wanted to try and figure out why the SIM site was saying what it was.
You inspire us all.

There is nothing to worry about when you go to the "leanest" as long as you are adding the correct amount of the healthy fats suggested in the QSG like olives, cream cheese etc. You should worry more about that (esp if you still have your gall bladder) than the calories.

:x I keep forgetting about the fats! I guess that is yet another reason why the calories are low...I only add fat (olive oil) when I eat a salad. Any other time I have have steamed veggies with nothing on them.

What do you put cream cheese on??

What were the old guidelines on Protein? Can I find them somewhere? I love meat and never get sick of it.

Thanks!!

I am one of those silly folks that can eat cream cheese right out of the container. I LOVE IT. Sometimes, though, I also add a couple of ounces to a MF pudding. I use the same amount of water and mix it in the blender or my mini slushy machine. Put it in the freezer for a few and it comes out really creamy - almost makes you think you are eating ice cream.

Sometimes I'll use cream cheese on the crackers made from teh cream of brocc soup.

it's not exactly sesame bagel with cream cheese and salmon, but it's not bad. :)

1. Cream cheese is not listed anywhere in any QSG or addendum.

2. Old protein guidelines: 5 oz lean beef, pork, lamb. 7 oz fish, chicken, turkey and seafood. Although on salmon you may want to put that in the 5 oz category.
Vegetarian options: 1 cup lowfat cheese or cottage cheese, 2 eggs, 7 oz tofu

Those are the basic old guidelines.

One TBSP of Cream Cheese is listed as a serving of fat option on the TSFL website.

http://www.tsfl.com/program/resources/Condiment.pdf

Look in the suggested Oils and Fats

Rodeomom,

I did try adding the cream cheese to my choclate pudding yesterday and it really helped with the consistency...although the flavor didn't seem to change much.

Thanks for the tip!!
Carrie
