Last Call..(Is that Garlic I Smell?)

Postby mellowmom » July 26th, 2006, 4:57 pm

Hi All,

Just checking to see if anyone else will be joining Mike and Diana and me at the Garlic Festival this weekend. I believe Mike and Diana will be going on Friday, for sure, and I'll be joining them there. Anyone else up for a day whiffing in the aromatic pleasures of the stinking rose?

Hey maybe we could do some kind of exchange a plane ticket to Gilroy for the Garlic Festival for a Chili Cook-off down near Amarillo! <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_75.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D12%252F12_4_75/image.gif">

My husband travels to California regularly. He will be out there in about 2 weeks. The weekend he gets home, we are having our annual downtown Polk Street block Party---they close off downtown traffic and have bands, food vendors, arts, crafts, all kinds of stuff. All in the name of charity. They will be giving away a really nice custom made bbq grill valued at 15K, a harley, 20 round trip tickets anywhere southwest airlines flies, a cadillac, and I don't remember what all else. You do have to buy chances on these things, but as I said, it is for charity. Make a Wish, the United Way, and Amarillo Center for the Arts will benefit this year. You could hitch a ride home with him and join the fun!!

First, I'd like to say what a great joy it was to meet Di and Mike in person. It was like we were old friends as soon as we saw each other.

Second, I'd like to thank them for having the immense patience to sit through the karaoke contest. It was a hot, long, loud event and they hung in there until the final decision.

Third, I wish I could have made it worth their while and been able to report I made it in to the semis, but alas, the mind is willing, but the voice is weak. :?

And lastly, I'm going to take this as a sign and formally announce my retirement from the "contest" aspects of singing. It's a young person's game...all the winners were under the age of 20, and spry as I feel, I just ain't got the moves to put me in contention. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop singing, (wouldn't want to dissapoint my fan.) just not entering contests anymore. I realize that despite my advancing age, I'm still pretty competitive and my ego doesn't do well with getting bashed in every other week.

I got some pictures, but Mike and Di have the bulk of them so you'll have to wait until they are able to post pictures of the three of us.

The Festival was fun. Luckily it wasn't too hot...but it was dusty. I'll leave it to Mike and Di to report what we had as our Lean and Green. We tried staying as compliant as we could. We had planned on having the garlic chicken stif-fry, but then found out it contained noodles so we had to move into "plan b".

You all have a great weekend.

We had a blast. Carmel has a great voice, and personally, I feel the contest was rigged  Carmel, you sing great, but like you said, leave those contests to the kids and go out and sing where they will appreciate a true gem.
We had a great time with you, and will post pics when we get a chance.
As for the L&G, I mentioned the stuffed mushrooms in my journal, but we also kinda shared some marinated shrooms and each had a chicken garlic caesar salad which was tasty. I think we still lacked protein, but you do what you can. ;)
Anyhow, we had a great time, and look forward to doing something like it again.
