Weeeelllllll......I hate to be the bearer of bad news....but I won't lie either. That's probably close to accurate. The three hours is about right, but only most, not all nights. It's mostly due to READING and more flipping READING READING READING READING. If your dh hates to read--like my dh--then I feel sorry for him. I LIKE to read and I was ready to PUKE if I had to read anymore. And honestly you really better read at least the majority of it. AT LEAST skim it, bare minimum, if you want to pass those convoluted tests--they are a real B!
I don't know about that eight to 12 on weekends though. That's probably up to your dh. We did a lot of coming in on weekends for study groups and practicing marching flights and things, but all that was totally self directed and optional, and not everyone chooses to come in. If your dh doesn't need the extra work, he doesn't have to come in. And his flight (small class group--the larger whole ALS "CLASS" is divided into smaller "flights" so there's actually like three or more small "classes" within the big official "CLASS") might not even set things like that up anyway. BUT, point being if he comes in for stuff like that and you count all THAT time on the weekend then yes it might add up to eight to 12 hours.
Also, if they are shortening the course, but not taking any information out, then those hours might go up. However, if they take some information out along with cutting the instructional hours, they should stay about the same.
The speeches and presentations can be easy unless you make them hard. They give you a format, and if you follow it like a kindergartener and put it together EXACTLY like they give it to you, like puzzle pieces, you will do well on it. At least that's how my ALS did it.
I'll tell you, I did VERY VERY VERY well on my speeches and presentations (98, 99, 100). The tests were what kept me from getting Distinguished Grad. I only got high 80s and low 90s on the tests. Another guy in my flight got like 98s and 99s on his tests, and he beat me out for DG.
