Ice Cream Sandwiches & Creamsickles?????????

Postby CarmenM » February 13th, 2006, 8:56 pm

Hey Everyone!!!

Well, i was just wondering about these ice creams that my sister bought. They are from Breyers and are sweetened with splenda
Here are the nutrients:

Ice cream sanwiches:
80 Calories
10mg Cholesterol
55mg Sodium
10g Carbs
2g protien

Creamsickles:
25 Calories
0 Cholesterol
0 Sodium
5g Carbs
1g protien

I dont really know about the ice cream sandwiches but to me the creamsickles sound pretty decent. Can anyone please tell me if i'm wrong. It would be nice to have these as a snack once in a while but if it's not allowed that's fine, i'll stick to my jell-o =)

Thanks everyone!!!

I don't think they are allowed...however if you like creamsicles try the orange shake flavored with some DaVincis French Vanilla syrup or a little vanilla extract and they taste just like an orange creamsicle!!!

Both have too many calories - the ice cream sandwiches aren't even CLOSE. 80 calories is basically a whole meal for us, except of course they don't have the nutrients.

Carmen

The best I can tell you is that everything that is approved on the program is perfectly balanced and gives your body exactly what it needs to function and lose weight steadily. They have formulated that way. Someone with a little more expertise will probably chime in with a better answer but for now I hope this helps a little. Stick with the program and you will lose for sure!

The little list of extras that are allowed (like Jell-O) says nothing over 20 calories. So ... too many calories. And yes, not balanced properly. Substituting unapproved snacks and meals for Medifast ones is a slippery slope, if you ask me.

I concur with Lisa and Robin. And the truth is, you can eat anything you like, it's just that these things are not approved for this plan. So, to stay on plan, these would have to wait for maintainence :)

I would have to disagree with them tasting like ice-cream. Frozen treat, ice-milk, maybe. But if you are an ice-cream fanatic this might not do it for you. I have tried freezing pudding, the mixed powdered shakes, and even the RTD's and they are all so so. If you are really just craving some Ben and Jerries or Hagan Daz you will be disapointed. If you just want something frozen and have a good imagination it might work for you.

Ice cream is a HUGE hot button for me, I've learned. In almost eight months on the program, I've had real dessert three times: Once I shared an amazing chocolate mousse thing with someone, and was full after a tiny bite. Once for my birthday I tried to have one of those brownie sundae things, and found everything to be too sweet and rich - except the ice cream. The third time was JUST ice cream, and I ate the whole little scoop. (Meanwhile, I bake cakes for work regularly, and never touch 'em.)

Lesson? For now, I don't touch ice cream, even if it's low-fat and sugar-free. Even on maintenance, it's going to have to be a VERY occasional treat and it'll probably never be something I can keep in my house. I'd have eaten the entire box of Splenda-sweetened treats within a day or so.

If you're looking for thick and creamy, there was a recipe in the Holiday Guide for a Butter Pecan Smoothie:

1 pack Vanilla Shake
3 oz water
1/2 tsp coconut extract
1/2 tsp maple extract
2 tsp Splenda (or to taste)
ice cubes
Directions: Blend water, extracts & splenda. Add shake and blend again, adding ice to desired consistency. (You don't need too many cubes for this).

I was amazed at how thick, rich and creamy this stuff was. I'm sure you could make something similar with the other shake flavors, too. I will usually have this if it's the end of the day and I still need another meal but not in the mood for a "big" drink. Very yummy - and for me, it will do just fine until maintenance - and maybe even beyond.

Thank you guys for all your replys

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions

LOL.. Dogma, i agree with you, it's probably a good thing that the creamsickles are not allowed because even if they are just 25 calories by the end of the day i'd eat the whole entire box!!

OMG Luzinit.. that recipe sounds really good, i have to try it, thanks :)
