Hypothyroidism/Underactive Thyroid.....UPDATED LAB RESULTS!!

Give us the skinny in the losers lounge.

unfortunately unlike diabetes and high blood pressure the thyroid probably wont be fixed by diet. The thyroid produces hormones that control many functions in the body including metabolism. Your body needs those hormones and they cannot be replaced by food. Cronic Hypothyroidism can be damaging to the body and the heart can be effected. Good Luck

Sorry, too, Tony - but I think we have to take the little pill for the rest of our lives. I suppose weight loss might decrease the dosage you need maybe, but I have been told repeatedly that you can't ever stop taking the hormone. I've had a dream of getting off it someday, too, but it's not realistic.

Of course, this is assuming that Tony has this. Hopefully, when he finishes the blood tests, they will find that this isn't the case. We are praying Tony.

Thats the way to look at it. Joelie got off all of her meds except for 2. Both she will be required to take for life, one is Synthroid. She has no choice there. I hope you turn up alright and that meds are not in your future.

Absolutely, Tony, sorry to have been talking as if this were a 'done deal.' But hopefully at least we've lessened your anxiety - this isn't so bad, if you do have it.

One thing to realize with this, if in fact you do have it after further tests, you aren't going to be taking a "drug". The meds are just replacements for the hormone your body is supposed to make, but isn't. So it's not like taking a drug that will do something funky to your body or have a side effect. It's just putting the hormones back into you, so your levels will be where they are supposed to be. It will definitely help with the tiredness. Not right away, but after a few weeks you will suddenly realize that you have energy again. When did that happen?? And then you will realize that your joints haven't been aching so much and you're not losing your hair so fast anymore. What do ya' know?? This being normal isn't half bad! :o
