Hummus?

Postby KimKim » May 24th, 2006, 1:52 pm

Hi Folks,

I really like Hummus and wondered if it could fit into the Medifast plan?
I can do without it if not but I look forward to having it again. I usually ate it with Kashi crackers or veggies but I'm on my 2nd week of Medifast and am determined not to cheat.

Thanks,

Kim

I'm afraid it's quite high in carbs, so it has to be off-limits for now.

I am with you there Kim....I am a big fan of hummus and miss it terribly. In the office building where I work there is a small restaurant that specializes in hummus, grape leaves, falafel salad, kibbi, taboulli...and the list goes on. Those are all my favorites and I do miss lunches there. But I don't miss the 35+ pounds I have lost.

Hummus?

Postby KimKim » May 24th, 2006, 9:30 pm

Oh, I see. Thank you, Dogma. I suppose what's on the label is pretty deceiving because only 4 carbs are listed but the serving size is also pretty small.

Wldtrk, Hummus is great, indeed. The restaurant you describe next door sounds pretty tasty. I find that I miss some of my favorites but, as you said, not enough to miss the weight loss and, for me, it's just beginning but I'm beginning to have hope that this program will work for me. It's not hard and I've been following it quite well.

Thanks to you both!

Oh great now I want that. LOL! Just when I was getting over my sushi craving, now this. :) MMMMMMMM....in due time right? I wonder if tabouli is ok though? LOL!

I miss hummus too!

The good news is it is actually a very healthy snack with veggies (after Medifast) if you can control the portion size (always a problem for me)! Otherwise hummus becomes very high in calories and fat.

I have decided after I lose the weight I am going to maintain it with a South Beach diet lifestyle - just healthy eating really and what my (skinny!) husband already does.

Hummus is good because it is made with olive oil - heart healthy- and actually middle eastern food can be very healthy if you avoid the fried stuff - made with olive oil and whole grains for the most part. So after you get skinny, the restaurant next door sounds like a great idea!

My husband bought the South Beach dining guide which has a lot of chain restaurants and other restaurants in big cities and lets you know the nutritional breakdown of lots of the foods, which has been helpful when looking for a "lean and green" (which is what the South Beach diet recommends too).

My very favorite is Sabra hummus - tastes homemade.

Let us have a moment of silence for the hummus. :boohoo:

It's just one of those things that will be waiting for us at the end of the journey should we choose to become reacquainted (sp?), but it's not one of the things we can take with us. Dayna makes AWESOME hummus. The good news is we can still have the celery it goes on!

BUT!!! Isn't losing all this weight the BEST THING EVER??? as good as Dayna's hummus is, it never made me feel like this! (Sorry, Dayna.)

Here's to our mutual, hummus-free success!! :buddies:

 That was absolutely hilarious. Sabra is also my absolute favorite and I tried roasted garlic and almost died on the spot. I look forward to having hummus when this is all over, so thanks so much for the moment of silence!!
