Kanani ~
I can definitely feel your anxiety.
Been there - way too many times and it is very hard to live that way for any length of time, indeedy doo!
I used to try to dissipate my anxiety by drowning in cookies and candy.
I'd put boxes of cookies under the bedskirt on my side of the bed and kiss Terry goodnight and tell him I was going to watch TV in bed for a while as he worked in the office or watched TV in the family room. Then I’d reach under the bed and grab a handful of cookies or candy, put them on a paper towel or napkin and chomp away.
I did that for years.
DH had bags of jelly beans and peanut butter cups in his office cupboard and he ate them while he was on the computer.
We both came clean with one another, we changed our habit – we eat nothin’ in the office or bed room now except a Medifast meal packet and water.
We keep no cookies, candy or crappage in the house any more – no ice cream, no crackers, no bread. When we want ice cream, we go out for a single serving of it and bring zippo home.
We determined we want to live and we want a better quality of life so that means no more junko.
Food is not our friend.
You’ve seen those bumper stickers that say, “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people.”
In our case, food kills – it kills our spirit, it kills our resolve and eventually it kills us with heart disease, stroke, diabetes (and all that diabetes entails is not pretty: amputations, pills & injections, etc.) breast cancer (which can result in radiation, mutilation, etc.) there’s nothing pretty about any of those things.
I know you are getting a handle on this and you are making excellent choices.
Today is a new day.
You are becoming a new person.
You are beautiful, healthier, proud of your accomplishment and so are we.
Hey, HulaGirl - when you feel stressed, put on "Bruddah Iz" and listen to his version of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and be ye glad and relaxed. I have de-stressed many a time by listening to Iz on my iPod or in our home over the sound system.
What a blessing to hear his soothingly clear voice!
[What a special man he was - I was saddened when Israel Kamakawiwo'ole passed away, as his music is so beautiful; it makes me weep. His weight was such a detriment to his health and ultimately it took his life. If readers are unfamiliar with Iz, do a google search or go to the music store and listen to some of his music. At one time he weighed over 700 pounds. Food kills.]
Supersize my asparagus, please!
Nothing tastes as good as thin feels...
