I'm sorry but whenever I look at the BMI "BS" Calculator and plug in different scenarios mostly what I get back out of it is Bovine Excrement. To fall within an average range for my height I would need to be at a weight that I don't think I have seen since I was in grade school.

My Body Mass calculator is a full length mirror and an accurate scale. When used properly in conjunction it will let you know when you are at the weight that you should be at.

The BMI calculator is just a rough estimate. It doesn't take into account things like muscle.

I still also go partly by the old "pinch an inch" test.

The charts say that I should be between 112-142 but I have never been thin and if I feel healthy I will be happy. I was 130lbs since 6th grade and it has kept creeping up on me. I stayed under 200 pounds throughout high school and after that it was all over! So once I am under 170 I will be happy because I have pretty much never been under that weight. I have never been in a size 14 for that matter and I can fit into one now but it is still a little snug to wear in public.

The lowest weight I can remember is over 20 years ago at 130 pounds, but I am now 20 years older, so I settled for the highest weight in the "normal" range (140) and will decide a final weight when I get to 145 or 150.

I'm tall 5'10 and weigh 175 right now...I set my goal by what I remember as being my best weight which was all the way back in high school...145lbs. If I get into the 150's and feel that I look good I'll stop. Ultimately, the mirror is the guide.

I plan to keep working out too and I know that muscle weighs more than fat so I'd be perfectly happy to weigh 160lbs and be at 20% body fat if that is what I'd weigh. I'm more concerned with body fat than what the scale reads.

Is anyone else planning to go about 5lbs beyond their goal weight so that they have a little wiggle room? I'm thinking that if I actually do get down to 145 I'll set my "warning" weight at 150 or so. If I reach the set warning weight back to medifast I go.

My BMI range is 120 - 150. Both my doctor and I believe that about 135 should be good for me but she has given me her blessing to get down to 120 just to see what it would be like. If it's not healthy then I'll go back up a little. Not trying to give myself wiggle room, just want to know what it would be like to be as skinny as possible so I can VOGUE and be hot (sorry, lame Madonna reference).

The Medifast folks specifically tell you NOT to go down an extra 5 pounds as a cushion. I think it's the old "slippery slope" theory. If it's OK to gain 5, then it'll be OK to gain 7, then 10 ...

I plan to get to where I'm comfortable in a size 6. And if they ever start getting tight, it's time to act.

I totally do not have a goal weight at all. This is funny because I am extremely goal oriented - especially professionally. But the situation is that I have been very overweight for most of my adult life, so I really don't know what weight will make me most happy. So here are my two goals that will determine when I can transition to maintenance:

1) I look in the mirror and say "Okay, that's good."
2) I can go into any store and find clothes I like that fit well, no restrictions on the kind of store.

That's all I need. I don't care about the BMI calculator, don't care about what my doc says (although they already think it's great, even losing 10% of body weight is a huge health benefit, and I've done way more than that!), none of that. Look, I agree that we all want to be healthy, but I am quite confident that the 86.5 pounds I've currently lost (plus whatever I am still destined to lose) will put me in much better health than I've been for years - and that's good enough for me!

So my goals will be reached when I can look at myself and just be content. No more and no less.

Besides, these calculators make me crazy! :-)

Good luck to everyone!

I'm with you Lauren, I will be the best judge of what feels best for me....

The BMI calculator can be sooo off, I have seen it....

I will know what fits and feels best.

I have chosen 139 as my goal weight. I started at 239 (this is my first week) 139 is in my BMI healthy range. I just feel like I can really do this, this time, and that is why I am going for a goal weight that is a "dream" for me. I am barely 5ft 3in, so although 139 seems like a normal weight, I haven't been there since about the 7th grade!
I would actually be thrilled with 150, but why shouldn't I shoot for what I really want to be?
I have just become so used to being so big, that being under 150lbs seems unatainable to me. Since starting MF, I feel like maybe it is really possible!

Oh my gosh-you are so right! I'd be happy with 150 but why shouldn't I also shoot for what I really want? no reason at all-that's why I am going to shoot for 140! I was there once before-(almost 10 years ago) and I will do it again! Thank you for inspiring me to go for what I really want-but was too afraid to set as my goal for fear of failure. But like you said-I feel that with MF--it is possible! :yay:
