how do you decide?

How do you decide what weight you should be? For me I know I was 140 when dh and I met, but having had a baby I don't know if I can go that low.(maybe that makes no sense whatsoever, I don't know)

I guess I am wondering if I should really be shooting for 140? What do you all think?

I decided mine based on the size I was and how I felt when I was 125 before, plus using the height/weight and BMI charts out there. I'm still not 100 percent sure of my goal, though. I have a size in mind, and when I can fit into it comfortably, with no bulge over my jeans or anything, I'll be there. Then I plan to start lifting weights again to tighten up and shrink what's left.

I am with Robin. I don't really have a real goal. I just went by the BMI charts and height weight charts out there. I do, however, realize that a weight is just a number. I also know that the more lean muscle I have, the higher my weight will be. Muscle is more dense than fat, therefore it weighs more. If the fat is gone, I am happy. I know how I want to look. I just am not sure at what weight I will be when I achieve that look.

My goal weight is set because I would like to go out ot Philmont Scout Camp with my oldest boy in 2 years. They have height and weight restrictions for adults. In order for me to be able to go and take part in all activities I need to be below 200.

The lowest I have ever been in my adult life was 178. It would be nice to see that again but I would settle for 198 and a pair of jeans that has a waist size starting with the number 3

For me I chose the weight my body stopped at the last time I lost a lot of weight. It just said "STOP!" and wouldn't lose anymore. I can't follow BMI because it's always lost with my amazon woman frame.

Wow, since when did Philmont have weight restrictions.

My ex was a big man, and he went to Philmont with my son years ago. He must have weighed in at around 275, he was 6'4" and no one ever said anything about weight restrictions...

Any my boss is going with his son this coming summer, and i know he weighs over 200..... Strange, I will have to mention to my boss, he might have to start on m/f too....

I'm aiming for 150-155. I was happiest with myself at that weight and it wasn't a constant struggle to be there. I was thin because of my large frame, but not sickly looking...when I was 130 I was VERY unhealthy. I do have a body size goal in mind...and wherever I hit that goal I'm not going to stress over my weight. I have about 4 - 5 inches to lose on each of my waist and hips to get there. So if it happens in 30 more lbs instead of the 40+ on my ticker, so be it.

It was easy for me. Uncle Sam, in his infinite wisdom, has a big chart that says how much sailors should weigh. I also go by the BMI charts. Now I haven't been anywhere near that weight in years but I'm going to see if I can get there.

Same thing here. Use the BMI chart as a goal range for your healthy weight then you can fine tune it within that range.

At 6'4" the absolute max weight is 267. For me....I am a 5'9" and I lie just a little. The max weight is 220. But if you want to go on any of the horse trips you need to be under 200.

I think the weight/height restrictions came into the picture a few years ago.

There are some restrictions when riding horses, I know there was a weight restriction for the horseback tour in Sedona, Arizona (I was like 5 pounds over it at the time, now it would be no way) :(

My goal weight is completely arbitrary & subject to change as it approaches - I am more concerned with what size I wear & how my clothes fit.

Never having been slim, I picked 143 because it was 70lbs lighter than where I *thought* I was starting (pre-digital scale *grumble grumble grumble*). While the BMI charts say 143lbs is overweight for my height (5'2 - I'm much taller in my head!), my mom was a size 6 at 5'4 & 157lbs and our builds are very similar.

My plan is to continually re-evaluate my goal as it approaches - if I look spectacular & slender & wear a size 6 at 160lbs, I'll be just as happy (if not happier!) than if I look spectacular & slender & wear a size 6 at 143, or 133. So, I guess you could say my goal is to go the distance and have a flat belly, regardless of the number on the scale :)

I'm going by the BMI, which is a lot kinder than the old insurance/doctor height and weight charts.

There's a BMI calculator on the Take Shape for Life website (see the link on Nancy and Terry's makemethinner homepage). I think a good goal is a BMI of 24 (or less). One is classified as Healthy at that rate.

My first goal is to achieve a BMI that's actually on the TSFL chart! My second goal is to lose the wretched adjective "morbidly" infront of that nasty noun "obese." My final goal will be to forever and always rid of any possibility that anyone could ever again refer to me as "obese" or even "overweight" in the present tense.

Size-wise, boy, it'd be great if it could be a size 10/12! I haven't seen anything in a pre-adolescent number since my junior year in high school. Right now, it's just great to be back in the 20-something sizes, even if barely, instead of the 30-somethings. I know other people still perceive me as roughly the size of a tank, but I FEEL positively svelt!!!
