I'm 5'8 and chose 160 because it feels achievable and for me it's realistic.

I am 5' 7.5" and have chosen 120 lbs as my goal under the supervision of my doctor. We both agree that I should probably weigh about 135 but 120 is the lowest number on the BMI chart for healthy in my range. I have never been thin before and would like to see what I look like. If I get happy before I get there then I may stop, but I doubt it. I want to see what skinny actually looks like on me and the MD says it's okay if I don't start running into any health problems and I agree to follow her advice.

Hi

Postby dede4wd » July 12th, 2006, 3:55 pm

I'm 5'10 and I picked my goal 3 ways...
1. My doc said 140-150 and I picked the higher one...
2. It is right smack in the middle of the healthy BMI for me.
3. It's what my mom weighs and we have the same frame size, wrist measurements, etc...She's 1 1/2" taller than me though..

BTW, I'm 5'10"

Also, don't worry about it Cate, NO ONE started noticing my loss until I was into 30#'s down! Then they'll be chasing you asking what you're doing!

Hey, I've lost 35 lbs. and NO ONE has said a thing to me (only my hubby and daughters. I'm thinking it's because I've gotten thin three times in the past ten years....the last time only three years ago. So I'm assuming that it's the dead silence of unbelief that I'll stay thin. :(

I'm 5'9" and small boned. (I know that sounds like an oxymoron)

I chose 148 lbs. as my goal because that would put me at a healthy BMI. I think part of setting my goal was I couldn't admit to being more than 60 lbs. overweight. That 60 pound number sounded doable for my weight loss goal. I also knew it would put me in Size 8 clothing. The size I felt most comfortable in when I was thin before.

I'm 6' tall and I chose my weight goal because it's 80 lbs lighter and since I was already an overweight, athletic person (I know what this sounds like but it's true), when I gained 60 lbs, I figure I needed to see what I would look like and how I would feel. But just getting that much weight off would be revolutionary. Unfortunately, I have no idea what my lean adult body would look like. Well, sort of but I was always dealing with pudge on top of the muscles and it seems as though Medifast will take care of my more stubborn fat pockets, so I really have no idea.

I put a goal on my scale to be 224 because even at that weight, with my height, I was doing great cardio work, I felt great and looked great in my clothes. It's sort of hard to believe but it's true. So, if I get to 40lbs lighter than even there, it would be amazing and then I would not have to worry about being on that fine line, I could just live comfortably and worry-free.

Neat thread... 8)
I'm 5'10" with an Amazon frame! ha ha  I chose 160, because I felt really healthy at that weight. I was 150 at one point, but looked a little sickly w/ my giant bones poking out everywhere... I would feel really hot at 160, I think! ;)

Or maybe people are content at certain weights. I set my goal at exactly what I need to be to be "normal" according to the BMI. Who knows if I will stick with it or change it.

I am 5'7"

Yeah I'd like to see people's heights on their signatures below their posts. I agree with you Jen.

I'm 5'5" and picked 145 as my goal because it is at the high end of normal for BMI and because at my most athletic (weight-lifting and swimming 8-9 miles a day) I was around 130 but with the muscle structure of a football player. Since I can't spend 4 hours a day at the gym anymore and three knee surgeries later 145 seems like a weight I can maintain.
I may adjust as I get closer to my goal. It will be easier to determine around mid December when snowboarding season starts. Once the season starts I go boarding three or four days a week until May or June.
So, um let it snow let it snow let it snow!

5'5" - my goal is 134 - I look good at that weight and can wear just about anything in my closet.
