How do I know if I am not in ketosis?

Postby Lulie » May 6th, 2006, 10:29 pm

OK,

I have been thinking, how would I know if I am not in ketosis? Is there something different in the way you feel or what? I haven't actually cheated, but just got to thinking. Well, if you count using a little extra lettuce cheating. And of course I ate some chicken patties that were questionable.

Just curious. What symptoms do I have proving I am in or out of ketosis?

Thanks for any help.

Ketosis

Postby xwoman » May 7th, 2006, 5:34 am

I recant, on the ketone sticks, my doctor has me check daily, and it's day 3 showing a definate state of ketosis, every body is different though and from what I can tell in general, MF sites suggest not using them.

I don't know if there is diffent types of sticks, mine were 4.00 for a 120, but they came from behind the pharmacy counter.

xwoman wrote:Thankful a man named Atkins opened the market on Ketosis. Many asked your same question, the answer pee strips. You buy them at Walgrens and Walmart, or GNC. Walmart is cheapest. Ask the paharmacist where they are, mine were behind the counter. Anyhow, about 4 dollars, you pee and the color lets you know. VERY COOL>

Actually, I believe that the mild form of ketosis that we get ourselves into on MF is negligible on those ketostix. I read somewhere that we should basically 'save our money'...

One sign of being in the MF form of ketosis is the  monster breath. I also notice that my mouth tastes sort of 'sweet' even after I brush my teeth...

Hunger and cravings are another sign.

Just like everyone else has already stated, this diet only produces a mild ketosis so the stix won't be helpful. Generally speaking, the hallmark of ketosis is decreased hunger, increased energy, and really bad breath.

What everyone else said. And a note that carbs will knock you out of ketosis, but added fat and/or protein will not.
