Hibachi Chicken From a Japanese Restaurant - - L&G???

Postby ascicles » June 16th, 2006, 11:05 am

My friends are meeting at a japanese restaurant tonight, and I was wondering if this would work for my lean and green. Obviously, I would order it without rice. Otherwise, it comes with zuchinni and mushrooms.

I know that they use soy sauce, but if I asked them to go light on that, would it work?

I'm not sure what kind of chicken parts they use though? Does anyone know what the normal is?

When I have gone in the past they used chicken breast. They also tend to use a lean beef for the steak entree.

They will use some oil in the cooking and some soy sauce. I'd mostly make sure they don't add sesame seeds or butter. They need to use the oil because of how hot the table gets. We're allowed uhm.. up to 2T of oil a day? I don't think you'll eat even 1T of the oil between your meat and veggies though.

Oh the salad dressing at a japanese steakhouse usually has sugar in it so ask for lemons instead.

I don't eat salad, but I know the people that own the restaurant, so I'm sure I can ask for extra zuchinni or mushrooms, and that will be enough to equal close to 1 1/2 cups combined. If it isn't enough, I'll add a little bit later.

I've never noticed them using butter...but now that you mention it, they do use some clear liquid that is probably some kind of oil. Hopefully they don't use too much of that.

At the place I go to I've noticed that right before they serve the food they tend to put a thin sliver of butter into the shrimp and the cut up meats. Maybe they don't do that everywhere.

Really.. I wouldn't worry overmuch about the oil.. they use a pretty small amount to cook all of that food. At least it's not a hidden carb!

Also, avoid the delicious Ginger dipping sauce that the give you. I'm sure it is loaded with sugar.

Yeah, I'd go with either no sauce or sauce on the side for everything. Other than that, it sounds like you're pretty well covered. I wouldn't worry about a little extra fat once in a while.

Mmmmmmm, that was a great lean and green. I took it home and the entire meal (plus a small plastic bowl) weighed 13 oz. That sounds pretty close to what it should be, if you count 7oz. for chicken and the rest in veggies. It seemed close to 1 1/2 cups.

If I show a normal loss tommorow, this may become a regular meal. This was always my favorite dinner prior to Medifast (with the rice, of course)...so it would be nice to know that I could have this occasionally and remain compliant.

I thought I'd chime in since I work at a Japanese Restaurant, Konechiwa!!!
Be really careful with Japanese foods....there are many hidden sugars and salts!!!! Meats they use depend on the restaurant, mine for instance uses Kobe beef which is extremely high in fat....I myself no longer eat anything at work except for Sashimi that is made from low fat fish, also always ask for the low sodium soy sauce, almost every Japanese place has it....
I hope I was helpful....

Kobe beef, huh? Must be a nice place, Amy!!

And Manly, does your daily weight really reflect what you had the day before? For me, it usually takes a couple of days to show up (except for salt, which makes me bloat within minutes).

Sorry I haven't chimed in. I lost a pound the day after eating there, so I think it worked out fine :)
